Re: LRG Log In Blockage

Here is the answer from LRG:
Firstly, to all members who actively participate, drive discussions and help to create interesting content. Thank you for your continued support. It is very much appreciated!

Due to increased running costs of the forum the LRG staff and management have taken the decision to limit the amount of members who can access the forum. Access will now only be granted to those who actively participate in discussions on the forum.

LRG is a very image heavy forum. Hosting this many images costs money. If you log into the forum and look at our content you are costing the forum money. It is only fair that the forum's limited resources are used by those who actively participate in supporting the forum with content and discussions.

Therefore the following automatic membership removal system is now in place:
  • Any member who does not visit the forum for 12 months will have their account deleted.
  • Any member who does not post on the forum for 12 months will have their account deleted.
  • All memberships will be monitored and a general lack of activity will be flagged and a decision on your continued membership will discussed amongst the staff members.
This system is automatic and handled by the forum's software. It is out of my control and there will be no warning prior to the deletion of your account.

Any deleted members are welcome to try and sign up again, but will only be considered if they promise to become more involved and support the forum.

Thanks,

The LRG Staff and Management.

Hello Norbert,
Thank you for your reply and detailed explanation.
It points to the membership however, those who visit now and again will be eventually excluded. Seems a little unfair to those of us who from time to time visit to post or to check on some point of interest.

Reminds me of the many members on this forum who if the members lists are checked have not visited for many months and in some cases years, but are still listed.

Both sites have great knowledge avilabe to their members.

Alex

Kind of like being told at the library that "unless you publish a book within twelve months, you can no longer borrow any"!

Actually a better and more appropriate analogy would have been - 'like a parent or teacher telling a child that if you do not share your toys, don't expect any one else to share theirs.'

"Forum:
"A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged."

Exchange:
"An act of giving one thing and receiving another (especially of the same kind) in return."

LRG is a private forum. It is owned and operated by private individuals.

Think of it as a friendly and respectable private members club. A meeting place where like-minded enthusiasts can exchange research, ideas and material from their own private archives with other like-minded members in an entirely reciprocal fashion.

Continued membership and thus access to the "private" LRG forum is inextricably linked with each member's active and continued participation. Any member not found to be actively participating in discussions will be removed.

Regards,
LRG Management"

Re: LRG Log In Blockage

Yes, so we read in Norbert Schuchbauer's note above, of 26 July 2018.

Apart from quoting from the Oxford English Dictionary, was there any real point in reiterating the aforementioned message from the "private, respectable and friendly" club that I have no doubt the LRG is?

Please correctly if I am wrong, but I believe that everyone here on the TOCH got the point already, including the individual who started the thread.

Thank you, anyway.
