Indeed that is the D-UDIN I was talking about.

So, the real puzzle remains, is this D-UDIN we see a wrongly marked D-UDIM??

Re: Unknown markings on a He 70

Indeed, the entry 'U.D.I.M. He 70' looks very strange.

But equally strange looks the line above: 'WL-D6KJ He 51'.
A 'WL-' reg points to the year 1939, early 1940 at best, so these two entries hardly correlate to a loss on July 17. 1942.
Plus 'D6KJ' could never be the four letters of a regular 'WL-' reg - the four letters should look like a civilian reg (starting with a vowel A/E/I/O/U/Y and not containing a numerial digit).

This raises the question:
How reliable look the remaining entries in this list?

He 70 F-2 WNr.1132 D-UDIM of Luftdienstkommando 7/1 was destroyed near Schongau on 17-Jul-42. See: RL 2 III/773 Gen.Qu.6.Abt, p.54, 19-07-42 and DVL Unfallmeldungen July 1942.

Norbert

Hi Norbert
The Gen.Qu.6Abt loss lists usually only gives the W/Nr. from this period while the DVL loss lists usually gave both markings and W/Nr. but the loss date was only done on a monthly basis. Is the U.D.I.M marking on the DVL document correct or because of re-copying etc the M is no longer clear. Could this not be the original source for for the in-correct M and perhaps it should then be read correctly as a N.

Re: Unknown markings on a He 70

The aircraft was test flown at Rostock on 24.07.36 by Kurt Heinrich as a He 70G (the liaison version) as WNr. 1132 and D-UDIM.

The D-UDIN from post #11 was a He 70F reconnaissance version with a glass canopy at the rear end. It was operated in spring 1937 by I./KG 355 at Gablingen. The aircraft at the right hand side of photo 4 was the He 70F 50+L12 (a former 2.(F)/125 aircraft) operated by the same unit during the same time.
