It's the second article of the second issue (Summer), "Pierre Clostermann Tells It How It Wasn’t" by D. Harvey, seen here: http://www.afhistory.org/air-power-h...story-archive/

It was serious research but now C. Cony's article, which used Clostermann's logbooks, is way more comprehensive. I just jumped on it when I saw the name of our most famous ace. I'll look at the other articles (and book reviews!) in anti-chronological order, starting by yours.

Thank you for the link, Alfred. The author of that article, Arnold D. Harvey, is something of a problem character, see the following blog post by the Australian aviation historian Brett Holman published in 2013:

'Enemy inside the gates'
https://airminded.org/2013/05/09/ene...ide-the-gates/

I think it is reasonable that Air Power History continues to publish articles by Arnold Harvey, since his aviation research is far less subject to the problems that Holman and others have highlighted in his other writing.

I am aware of Christophe Cony's article in Avions and agree with you that it is a good piece of research, as is so often the case with the works of M. Cony.

Kind regards,

Dan

I had no idea. I'm only familiar with the big names of WWII aviation. Thanks for that bit of information. I am always suspicious with author with such eclectic collection of writing.

Alfred, Harvey's research can still be interesting, as you found when looking at the information about Clostermann's score. That he behaved unethically in one area does not necessarily mean that all his writing is devalued, though naturally his reputation is now questionable. In any case, this should not detract from the hard work of the many other excellent contributors to Air Power History. Among other things, they tackle broad historical issues far more commonly than other aviation history magazine.

Kind regards,

Dan
