As in real life, the blame is always two-fold: why didn't the person do his/her job, and why let him/her his/her superiors get away with it?

He didn't get away with it but guess who had to sort out the F540? You've guessed it-me!

The ORB is recorded on two forms, F540 is a narrative record of what happened each day and F541 lists the operational flights (sometimes all flights)

Sometimes you can get a real feel for the writer, one man studiously recorded the attendance at church parades and another recorded ice hockey and soft ball team results (Canadian). Neither was particularly interested in operations.

The enemy getting hold of an ORB is quite serious, they are not going to find out anything of immediate operational use but the background information they could find is immense, particularly if the compiler is doing his job semi competently
