@laurent,
found this ... after a hint (#2) from you: https://web.archive.org/web/20080917...ml/home-2.html "W0245715" is a coordinate? thank you & regard ghostwriter |
Re: 1st lt. albert w. pines; 324 fg / 315 fs
W0245715 appears to be the "type" of co-ordinate discussed on this site:
http://www.echodelta.net/mbs/eng-welcome.php except the format would be wO245715 for the Nord de Guerre grid, and when you use the translator on the above website you end up at Latitude : 50° 06' 04'' N Longitude : 10° 52' 42'' E which is nowhere near the actual crash site. Some of the co-ordinates for other losses on the link you found do seem the check out using the "echodelta" site on the appropriate grid map, so I am not sure where they went wrong on Pines. |
Re: 1st lt. albert w. pines; 324 fg / 315 fs
How about if it was WQ not WO ? Would that be a closer match ?
Perhaps an early typo error or type ribbon was drying up and it then looked to be an "O" ? |
Re: 1st lt. albert w. pines; 324 fg / 315 fs
You know his date of death, but does anyone have his date of birth?

Re: 1st lt. albert w. pines; 324 fg / 315 fs
i did some more research to the coordinates:
wO245715 is wrong ... it must be wW245715 and this was the launch site, wW320654 is correct and this was the crash site!! it's mysterious, there's so much wrong!? :confused: regards ghostwriter |
