Adriano

To continue with what Griehl states, he lists the M production to appx 485 aircraft including the prototype.
At the same time he gives WNr blocks as follows:
2801 - 2901
6001 - 6400
56001- 56200
322701-326300
722701-722800

It is easy to see they are either wrong or there must be huge black out gaps in there, somewhere.

Cheers
Stig

The 6001 to 6400 (not certain that these went that high?) but as far as I understand should be listed as 56.001 to 56.200. So could No 67 be 56.067?

I see Tom

What you are saying is that Griehl duplicated one batch by not giving them their correct WNr?

Interesting!

In such a case, the two batches 322xxx and 722xxx ranges also look a bit suspect, with only an initial 3 or 7 keeping them apart.

Re: Dornier Do 217 M, werknummer 3867

That's my table of the Do 217M production, put together from losses, test flights and photos:

M V1 1230
M-0 1241 -1245

M-1 40701 -40795
M-1 47100 -47106
M-1 56001 -56196

M-1 326200 -326360
M-1 326396 -326475

M-1 722727 -722754
M-1 722842 -722899
M-1 722926 -722990
M-1 723015 -723037
M-11 723038 -723180

Two similar decorated ones as that plane from the photo were WNr.56057 lost by 9./KG 2 on 12.07.43 and WNr. 56054 lost by 8./KG 2 on 16.08.43. The "67" was to my opinion WNr. 56067 operated by 9./KG 2 (due to the small yellow spinner tip) during spring and summer 1943. On 28.08.43 it was taken over by 12./KG 2 and became lost by that unit as U5+DW on 16.04.44.

Wow Gerhard

Hats off to that list!! It sure updates what Griehl wrote many years ago.
Looks like I was correct being suspicious about the 322xxx range.
Also well done, Tom, you also got it right.

Thanks again Gerhard!! :)

Cheers

Hi Gerhard,
Thank you for the informative listing.
Am I correct that about forty of the M-1s within the 40701 to 40795 range were converted to Do 217 K-3s?
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Gents,

This photo looked familiar to me and going through my files I found four other photos of this Do 217 M-1 machine and event. The aircraft’s V.-kenn. – U5+ge.DW – and last two digits of the Werknummer – ‘67’ – are clearly visible, thus matching Gerhard’s identification of it being WNr.56067 of 12./KG 2.

I do not have my copy of U. Balke's book at hand to determine the date of the 1000 flights ceremony. I tried reducing the size of the images to a size acceptable for inclusion here, but in doing so their resolution was compromised. If anyone want's copies - (they being from a long-expired Ebay sale), please let me know.

Gerhard, thanks for sharing your research!

Cheers,

David

Steve,

the Do 217K-3 were new build aircraft with numbers 4701 to 4752.

Dear Gerhard, Steve, David, Stig and all

Firstly sorry for the long delay. Weekends are pretty busy with a kid of 3 and I rarely do have time to sit and write alone.

Your matching of the werknummer is amazing. Do have no words to express my gratitude. This is a topic (Dornier Do 217) and subject I have no references at home (apart a book about KG 100).

Gerhard, would you have the crew names of U5+DW lost on 16th April 1944? I will try to match the RAF possible claim.

DAVID: I would like to have a look at the pictures you mentioned about either the 1,000 Flight or the U5+DW mentioned. Would you be able to share them here: baumgartner_asv@yahoo.com.br

AGAIN I am in debt with you all who enlighted me with a knowledge and DATA I was not familiar or unable to obtain. My gratitude.

Adriano S. Baumgartner, ASV 00.344

It would appear U5+DW crashed 33 km NE of Melun due to an accident on a training flight; Fw Friedrich Koch, Fw Alois Hochstadter, Uffz Helmut Paul & Gefr Heinz Schlunke all killed
