Re: Lancaster loss ND672 22/23 March 1944 From my notes I have Ofw. Rudolf Frank as the best match for claiming ND672 at 21:40 JR-1 [IR-1] Gütersloh 5.500m. Was Velasco the Mid Upper Gunner? Was he thrown clear as ND672 broke up or exploded? AJ if you have more information it would really help to explain the sequence of events that night. regards Robert |

Re: Lancaster loss ND672 22/23 March 1944 I also believe that Ofw. Rudolf Frank is the most likely match for claiming ND672 as his 37th 'abschuss' Sgt Peter Velasco was the mid upper gunner who was thrown clear of the aircraft as it broke up he was subsequently knocked unconciouss and captured being taken to Stalag Luft I. The aircraft was from 49 sqn and took of at 19:11 for RAF Fiskerton in Lincolnshire. The crew were on their 4th operation although two members were on their second operation and one member the navigator was on his first operation. Hope this helps |
