To James S.

Perhaps you can provide some specific examples of what you are looking for. Just a missions list would not be very useful.

Alex. "The Mighty Eighth a history of the units, men and machines of the US Eighth Air Force" ( 1989) is the same as the original "The Mighty Eighth a history of the US Eighth Army Air Force" (1970) revised in 1992; The War Diary is a different book (1981) day-by-day-rather than a general history of the Eighth.

There are a couple of chapters in Craven & Cate's History on the beginnings of the Eighth (Bomber Command as it was).

8th AF mission reports are also held in the UK National Archives in the AIR 40 file series.

I have a list of the missions and most of the books plus unit histories, looking for mission reports, etc. as I would like to make a comprehensive account/accounts of the early bombing missions flown by a handful of groups in the 8th. Seems like there is comprehensive detail about the 8th's bombing missions , say from the summer of 1943 and onward. Kinda like now where you are seeing a lot, so to speak, about the first year of the war in the Pacific, not counting the navy, about the U.S. and Australians fighting the Japanese in New Guinea in the air, if that makes sense.

Hello Nick,
Wow, haven't got either of those books. Cannot understand how/why I never acquired a copy :(
But do have the "War Diary" :)
Thanks, will look out for an old one on line :)

Alex. There are copies on Ebay now, there are several different dust jacket designs though.
If you havn't got it already you might like to check out Roger's "War Manual", this is the 2001 softback edition. There's at least one on Ebay. Main chapters are.....
Operational technique and procedure.
Armament and equipment.
Installations.
The part on radar and electronics is especially interesting I thought.
Regards
Nick
