It is not N3242 but Ni 3242. The latter looks like Model 11 to me and with such a high Italian serial number is most likely a Macchi built one. The Italian company started its days as Nieuport-Macchi with the sole pupose of building Niuport models under licence. They "advanced" up the ladder by also building the Hanriot HD.I....

They also designed some parasol types based upon the Nieuport fuselage.

Hi Stig. 3242 is in full Italian markings ie. cowling red-white-green sections and red-green panels under the wings. The serial style is Macchi. It was quite common for personal emblems to be painted over the fuselage cocardes.

I think the 2-seater pictured above with damaged tail is a Nie.10, the 12 had a large clear panel in the top wing, wider chord top wing and the tops of the "V" struts were further apart.

However since Macchi also imported some basic airframes before starting their own production and most likely painted them up as well in Italian colours, I simply was cautious :)

With regard to the Nie 10 or 12, I think you might be correct

Stig. This shows the cowling markings in red-white-green which I mentioned (sometimes reversed); a Nie.11 from 78th Sqd. Mostly seen on Type 11s.
The propeller seems to be solid not laminated?

The seller has it as a Nieuport XII, but is it in fact a Nieuport 10?

Hi Stig. It's a Nieuport 10C.1 single seater, this is N.237 from the same batch; unit is MS.12 (note parasols in background).
