Re: Photo Letord

Hi Stig,

I certainly would not wish to state, though of course I have, that it is not a Type 2,but it appears that Letord STAe follow a logical pattern. So most un-Nieuport like. Obviously I stand ready to be corrected,if anyone can provide evidence to the contrary, but the highest Letord Type 1 serial I have is No.155,the first Type 2 No.170. I have a few definite ids for the serials prior to No.155,all Type 1. Still ready to be convinced otherwise.

Clint

Re: Photo Letord

Interesting isn't it Clint?

The French Escadrilles de l'aeronautique militaire Francaise lists No 64 to have been in use
by Sop 13 as a Type 2
They could of course be wrong, since it is refuted by other sources.

For the sake of clarity, I have already listed it as a Letord L 1. Guess I just wanted a discussion
about it.... :)

Cheers

Hi Stig,

No alas, you're correct

Back to the drawing board.

Albin denis also suggests that the link I posted is very probably No.64. However, I still think at this stage the STAe is No.12 -or do you disagree?

Re: Photo Letord

Wish I could say for certain Clint.

From what I gather it all boils down to which engine was used.
I am simply not good enough to see that.

But if the number really seen is 12 then yes, I would say it is a Type 1

Re: Photo Letord

Cheers Stig,

I should have posted a second link in my last post,it is I think probably a clincher. Both Albin Denis (although he believed it to be No.64) and yourself identify the machine, whichh as we now believe the STAe No.12 as a Type 2. Good enough for me.Definitely looks like the same incident.

Re: Photo Letord

No idea Clint why Ms Denis ID the aircraft as a Type 2

On all the photos there are people blocking the engines, making a visual very hard.

If Denis thought it was No 64, of course he believes it to be a Type 2 but if he knew the digits
were 12, would he still ID it as such?

Again I think if what we see are only digits (ie 12) then I would say it was a Type 1

Cheers

Re: Photo Letord

Well, no doubt about the identity of this type,at least. Currently on ebay Letord Type 4 No.799.
