Re: Photos Italian WW.I Aircraft

Indeed Clint

I believe we have another MF.11 (MF.14 in Italy) here.
How do you read the MF number? Initially I read it as 4750 but that can't be right, could it?
I rather lean on the digits 475 and what looks like a 0 is something else.
What do you think?

I also found the crashed Gotha G.IV of interest. Serial number 08.1 something.
I haven't checked any sources yet....have you?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photos Italian WW.I Aircraft

Stig,

MF.4750 seems reasonable for the Farman. I Reparti dellaviazione italiana nella Grande Guerra has a number of other machines in the MF.47** range as operated by 106 Squadriglia which seems a reasonable bet for the operator of the machine shown given the date and location (as long as the seller's caption is accurate).

The number range does admittedly look unusual for the MF.14,but the range I have, low number MF.4710,high number MF.4787 contains machines operated by other units also. However the text states Farman Colombo for MF4724 & MF.4763,but this must be wrong as we're definitely not looking at a Farman Colombo here.

As for the Gotha. Perhaps 08.16 ?? of Flik 102/G?

OK Clint

So MF 4750 after all? I can live with that.... :)

And yes I agree the Gotha G.IV is 08.16 which was shot down by AA-fire

Cheers
