There are at least three versions of the murder of Sergius (Voskresensky). Most of the sources were suspected of being Germans. In recent years, anti-Soviet propaganda has been promoting more the version of "Stalin's saboteurs", according to the third version, these could be the Baltic nationalist detachments. In fact, all three forces in the region had reasons to get rid of him. For the Germans, he could at any moment overturn in the process of the offensive, since he remained formally subordinate to the Moscow patriarch (and did not refuse it) and behaved independently. For Soviet, he is a traitor, but by the spring of 1944 he was not particularly dangerous - he could not have roused the people to resist the army. For the Baltic nationalists, he was always an enemy as a representative of the Russian diaspora.

According to the reports of the newspapers "Vestnik" (Kovno) and "Russian Vestnik" (Riga), the car of Sergius (Voskresensky) was returning from Vilno (Vilnius) to Kovno (Kaunas) after the concert. In car was also: driver P.Ya. Kulakov, the singer émigré Innokenty Fokovich Redikultsev and his wife Maria Mikhailovna Redikultseva (Vostrikova). All died.

Ahh.. So the "wife" that was killed was the wife of the singer, Redikultsev, and not the wife of the driver. Still, it is an interesting story.
