Kirche,
I assume that the full serial of that Lisunov Li-2 is 18415209.
15209 is only the 'short version' without the factory and AC model part.

May I ask what you mean with AC model part?
I was under the assumption that
184 was the factory code
152 was the batch number, and
09 was the aircraft in that batch

Re: Red Air Force DB 3 losses 24-25 April 1945 in Landsberg an der Warthe/Gorzów Wielkopolski area?

Hi Stig,
Zavod (factory) 84 produced the Li-2s, or the 'PS-84's.

Factory details: fomer GVF repair plant since 1932, became zavod 84 in 1935;
accommodated KBs of Levkov and Bolkhovitinov; PS-84 (later
redesignated Li-2) aircraft produced; evacuated 10/41 Tashkent
onto site comprising Aeroflot repair plant No. 34, a printing
shop and a sawmill 'Chirchikstroi'

I did not really research Li-2 history, but all wartime Li-2s I went through started with 184........, such as 18414910 - 18416004, etc. 18415209 would just fit between them - and many other examples.

Cheers,
Gabor

Hi Stig,
Yes, 152 seems to be the batch number, 09 the number of the plane within that batch, 84 the factory number and perhaps 1 was the code of the PS-84/Li-2 model in that factory: 18415209. Again, this is just a theory, but a very reasonable theory.

YES! Found official explanation of wartime Li-2 serial number structure.
Again: 1=Li-2 model, 84=facory number, 152=batch number, 09=plane number within that batch.

Enjoy!

Re: Red Air Force DB 3 losses 24-25 April 1945 in Landsberg an der Warthe/Gorzów Wielkopolski area?

Thanks Gabor

Yes, I am aware of factory 84 (the two prototypes built were 841 and 842), but since there are no other 84 prefixed c/n, I take it the factory for some reason changed their prefix to 184....or....?
Because if not, what does the digit 1 stand for?

The factory was evacuated to Tashkent after the German invasion, but the c/n system was maintained all through the war. Not until ca 1952 did the prefix system change, that is with batch no 406.

No.1 was the model code for the Li-2/PS-84 model at the factory No.84. See attachment.

Thanks again

Our answers crossed each other.
So the digit 1 was actually a type designator.
Interesting!

Cheers

Yes, in this case it was not the standard.
