Re: Heinkel 111 recovered from sea photo
3737 He 111 H-5 1H+KL I/KG 26 (Luftwaffe)
OPS (F) shot down in sea (100%) off Faroe Islands 21.02.1941 (after bombing the trawler Lincoln City at Torshavn; Fw. Helmut Much, Oblt. Heinz Rönnau, Fw. Johann Thaler and Fw. Konrad Roick mis) - Parts of this machine were salvaged by SS LAMERICK and landed at Leith on 09.03.1941 - I remember this pic (and tieup) but my filing system is now classified as "failing on most part" or has "holes" in it, whichever comes first. Anyways gets larger as to proportional to as more is taken away. Addenda: Possibly I saw a pic in old contemporary Aeroplane or Flight, and perhaps giving name of trawler etc. He 111 was on left side of trawler, bottom to ships hull with right wing and engine near vertical, I think it might have been recovered by divers in remote location some where near coast (of Faroes) Ed. |
Re: Heinkel 111 recovered from sea photo
Thanks for everyone's input, I remember it as having been a wartime recovery. David your photo sounds promising. Any chance of a small view of it?

Re: Heinkel 111 recovered from sea photo
Further to earlier posts, a photo has emerged showing a starboard wing being lifted from the sea and on the back it says off the British coast but no date. Another source also has this photo with the date January 1941 which would not indicate it as being the 3./KG 26 one on 23 Feb 41 but He 111 H-5, 3638, A1+JK of 2./KG 53 shot down off Canvey island 16 Jan 41
