Hello Nick - in the case of your original question - a pukka accent - probably a German using an authentic "english" accent in a bid to give false information to the formation and make them think it originated from the UK, or, as they were over Sicily from Malta in this instance - rather like we did in reverse circumstances to the Germans, especially to the night fighter force in an effort to mislead them and cut down our horrendous losses. - cheers - Allan p.s. is that a good answer or am I going doolally answering it!! :D

A question RE: British Slang...

Clostermann used 'gen' a few times in the Big Show.

Pukka Gen...

I think "Gen" is from "intelliGENce" - Pukka being well-known for "Genuine" too... so it could be Gen Gen...

I met a Brit in Australia when I was serving in the RAF (FEAF) in 1969 who was so surprised when I used the phrase "Duff Gen" - a phrase he hadn't heard for many years - that he asked me what I meant by it... obviously it meant wrong, dodgy, suspect information! The reverse of "Pukka Gen"...

Allen: Your reply was spot one!

I always thought that expression ('pukka accent') meant something of an very exaggerated, upper class 'lah dee dah'(to quote Chris Hitchens) accent...
Thanks again guys

Still in use in the British Army today.

Pukka - Good, Honest , Truthful - "It's pukka gen"

Used to describe something in admiration, frequent ly used as one word .

That is PUKKA!

The opposite of Pukka is Duff.

Duff - Not good , out of date , irrelevant , untruthful. "Sorry, thats duff gen"
