Re: New website for RAF Aircraft Losses September 1939 to August 1940.

The entries for April and 1-9 May 1940 have been uploaded and I have begun work on the 10-31 May 1940 period.

At the prompting of Jagan from 'RAF Commands' I have had a basic 'Search' function installed on the home page.

Regards,

Martin.

The full month of May 1940 has now been uploaded, by far the largest month for entries.

Martin.

Re: New website for RAF Aircraft Losses September 1939 to August 1940.

I have finished uploading all of July 1940. That ends the outstanding uploads of the completed months. As mentioned on the website ‘Introduction’ page only August 1940 is left. However, this requires some months of further work. I will probably upload these days as I complete each one, or maybe several at a time. So, just keep an eye on the ‘Update’ page.

I will add corrections and additional information as supplied by colleagues on an irregular, but ongoing, basis.

Regards,

Martin.

Re: New website for RAF Aircraft Losses September 1939 to August 1940.

I have uploaded 1-4 August 1940 onto my website, day and corresponding night periods. The next two uploads, hopefully, will be 5-7 and 8-10 August, including the night periods. After that it will be one day at a time, plus the relevant night period, until 31 August 1940 which will bring the project to a conclusion. Following this there will be irregular updates.

At the suggestion of several colleagues, I have included the Service Numbers, where known, for the personnel and will try to continue this for the rest of August 1940.

Martin.

Re: New website for RAF Aircraft Losses September 1939 to August 1940.

Hello all,

I have recently finished my work on August 1940 and uploaded the last pages onto my website. This is as far as I plan to go date wise. However, I will continue with updates, containing new information and correcting errors.

I also plan in the near future to add service numbers to the listed personnel where possible, from September 1939 to July 1940 inclusive. I have already done this for August 1940. This exercise will probably take many months.

Beyond that, there are a number of items I would like to put up on the website, but these are not related to the first year of the air war. Such as copies of several Flying Logbooks and some other aviation material that otherwise might never see the light of day or would not be accessible to most colleagues.

I fervently hope other parts of the now-defunct ‘EAGLES OVER EUROPE’ project are published in some format over the next number of years by other partners from that ambitious work, inspired for me by Peter Cornwell and the late Larry Hickey.

Martin Gleeson.

Re: New website for RAF Aircraft Losses September 1939 to August 1940.

Website Update.

My website has been ‘live’ for a year now and happily for me has been favourably received. Unfortunately, I have no method installed to judge the level of traffic !

While the main work is complete, I am presently adding the personnel service numbers, as well as a certain amount of corrections and new material. I greatly appreciate the input of colleagues, visitors and even relatives of some of the airmen who have pointed out certain errors and supplied me with valuable new details and sources. The website continues to improve because of this assistance. I am certainly happy to receive copies of relevant primary material for the period that I do not have, including Flying Logbooks.

Regarding the service numbers. I have completed this work up to the end of January 1940 and am continuing with this project. It has proved to be somewhat slower and more tedious than I had hoped, but I would like to finish it before the end of this year.

I often make minor corrections and add some sources without making them full ‘Updates’ as that would, I believe, dilute the impact of the more substantial changes. I sometimes add service numbers as opportunities arise. If possible this year, I hope to add copies of two or three Flying Logbooks to the website but these will not be related to the first year of the air war. Also some miscellaneous material, again mostly not related to the period covered by the website, that might in time otherwise be lost if it is not made available for public viewing.

Thanking you all gain for your support and interest.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.
