Re: Loss list in London
Kari
Just looked for a QM Report in HW 5 and found this one dated 25/1/44 "At 1200 on 24/1/44 Ju 88A-4 VY+GT c/n 550286 crashed due to engine failure 20 Km NE of Bobruisk. A/C burnt out 100% damage, Crew Lt Gruetzmacher, Obst Herkel, Uffz Nolte AND uFFZ Goerg slightly hurt" So to answer your earlier question there are some Eastern losses in HW 5 Regards Tony |

Re: Loss list in London
Hi All,
I would just like to confirm that the HW 5 series has more than loss lists. There are many examples of unit strength returns for both aircraft (with wnr.) & personnel (often with named individuals), particularly for 1944 & 1945. They mainly apply to the areas of most interest to the Western Allies, but there are definitely some Eastern front losses. It's important to remember that these are based on intercepted radio messages. Units that were still able to report on paper would not be represented: however as 1944 progressed you can see that many more units began to send their reports by radio. All types of reports faded away during April 1945. Finally it is possible to cover up to 20 volumes per day when using a digital camera, but you might need a break before your next visit to get your eyes back into focus!!. |
