Re: Combat claims by Dakotas of 46 group?
I found only one incident where a transport plane (C-46) pilot was "credited" with a shoot down.
Search for Gayda in the story below: https://www.wearethemighty.com/artic...the-himalayas/ So a C-46 (not a C-47) and using a cockpit window (not a porthole window). The pilot, Walter Anthony Gayda may have been awarded a Silver Star for the incident: https://valor.militarytimes.com/reci...cipient-47129/ Walter became a commercial pilot after the war. In 1957 he was married (very briefly, as it turned out) to an actress. https://www.newspapers.com/article/h...tin/186822341/ (For the next facebook link, use the X to close the top warning window then use the back arrow in the upper left to move "back" to the story: https://www.facebook.com/chaewon.cha...6781858116505/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Rosal |

Thanks Rolland. Gayda was in the India-China Wing of ATC, HQ Chabua. He flew C-47s also.
C-46 enthusiasts may find this of interest. https://curtisscommando.e-monsite.co...ia-china-wing/ Nick |
