Franek,

This thread is not about debates but dates.

No mention of 1-9-39...

You could have mentioned it, right?

Over 90% of the days have a WW2 related comment.

To make it managable I'd opt for "epic" dates first, granted that this is subjective matter, but first Wirraway combat flight seems to be less important than the attack on Poland, the aerial bombardement of Rotterdam, the opening of Barbarossa or D-Day.

But as time goes by we could fill it to our liking.

I'm still looking at how to implement this feature.

But thanks for the imput!

'Political prisoners' does not sound very fortunate for me.
Franek,
sorry, surely this was not meant to be offensive. It is just a quote from a book "Chronik des zweiten Weltkriegs", where it says:
"In the former Polish barracks facilities in the vicinity to Auschwitz (Oswiecim), located between Kattowice and Krakow, the first political prisoners are interned. Affected are 728 Polish prisoners from Tarnow. Many of them had been arrested at the eastern border, from where they hat attempted to escape via Hungary to the West and mainly to France."
Maybe this book is not as accurate as it should be
But let's keep with the dates

Here are some more:
27. Jan, 1943: First US-daylight-attack against Wilhelmshaven
16/17. May 1943: The Dam raids, the Möhne and Eder dams are breached
13. Aug. 1943: First attack against Austrian territory
10. June 1944: Destruction of the village Oradour-sur-Glane by the SS, 642 inhabitants are killed, only 7 survive
12. June 1944: First V-1 against London
8. Sept. 1944: First V-2against London
11. Sept. 1944: First US-troops on German soil
17. Sept. 1944: Operation Market Garden
12. Nov. 1944: Sinking of "Tirpitz"
16. Dec. 1944: Start of "Battle of the Bulge"
13./14. Feb. 1945: Destruction of Dresden
29. Mar. 1945: Last V-1 hits Great Britain
20. Apr. 1945: Last strategic bomber attack against Berlin
25. Apr. 1945: American and Soviet troops meet at Torgau
29. Apr. - 7. May 1945: Operation Manna, supply flights of the RAF for the Dutch civilian population
2/3. May 1945: Last air attack against a German city (Kiel)

Best wishes
Robert

So I did, nonetheless I am surprised nobody did not mention most important date of WWII.

Robert

No offense taken, nonetheless I am constantly disgusted with the way, history of so many is treated with Western literature. Hence my points.

Here are other impiortant dates.

23.08.1939 Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact
1.09.1939
German attack on Poland and subsequently start of WWII.
First kill of WWII by Frank Neubert - first victim - Mieczysław Medwecki.
First Allied kill - He 111 downed by Aleksander Gabszewicz and Andrzej Niewiara.
First terroristic attack on a civilian target - Wieluń.
4.09.1939
Stanisław Skalski becomes an ace - the first one in WWII.
14.09.1939
Hannes Gentzen becomes an ace - the first Axis one in WWII.
28.11-1.12.1943
Teheran conference
4-11.02.1945
Yalta conference
27.03.1945
16 members and representatives of Polish government were arrested, after they arrived for 'negotiations' with Soviet gen. Serov, plenipotentiary of Stalin. They were trialled on 18–21.06.1945 in Moscow, accused of collaboration with Germany and treason of Soviet Union.
28.06.1945
France first recognises communistic puppet government of occupied Poland, a week later is followed by UK and USA.
20/21.10.1963 during operation of communistic secret services at Stary Majdan, the last Polish partisan, Józef Franczak "Lalek", was killed. He was in combat since 1939.
17.01.1993
Soviet occupation forces leave Poland.

Re: Forum Calendar...help me fill it please

I can´t understand some dates posted here!

Since 12 O´Clock High is an aviation forum why so many non aviation related dates may be posted in the callendar?
So any date of any fact could be placed here, like Launching of ship "X"... sunk of ship "Y". Ground or Water Battle dates... Any sea or ground attack date...
That´s my opinion.

Lets not turn this into a debate.

Right know there are plenty of suggestions, enough for for thought.

Thanks to all who participated, but first we must get everything nice and tidy on the forum anyway.
