This is volume one of three. It covers only Army aces with 10 or more victories. Volume two will cover Army aces with 5-9 victories. And volume 3 will cover the Naval aces.

does it have anything on Lydia Litvyak ?
depending on what sources you have she may be listed with as few as 8 kills and as many as 12.

if it does I may look into getting it.
that could be difficult here in the USA

Mikhail, in general - does the available records also give the daytime of the combat/claim? My field of interest is battle of Kursk and it would be very hard to match Luftwaffe casualties (in many cases the daytime would be known) and VVS claims, without knowing the time of the combat from Russian side...

The sample pages that were shown at the beginning of the thread on the website didn't have the times just date, a/c type and location. Owl-99 did tell me that they were looking into the possible english translation awhile back. The mission times for claims and loss of the ace would be helpful.

I was just wondering if this would be possible at all to know the daytimes, that is, if there was a standard to record such details in units files.

There are (at least) two Russian language bookstores in the US (both in Brooklyn, in fact) that carry the book. kniga.com lists the book at http://www.kniga.com/books/product.a...9&dept_id=1122
and ruskniga.com at http://www.ruskniga.com/sell.asp/Ite...ry/Books/sc/35
The price is about the same at both of them. Both take credit cards. Both have 800 numbers for use in the US and Canada; at the top of the page for kniga.com, and the very bottom for ruskniga. Neither can handle ISBNs. Both speak Russian and English, but unless you know Russian or can pronounce the title of the book, kniga.com may be hard to deal with; ruskniga might be easier to order from, since they show a product number (B55670).

Thank You Frank, I did not know about either bookstore as I've never been to the city.
(that's cute as kniga is book in Russian)

also Thank You Denes,as the authors could probably not confirm 10 kills she probably did not qualify.
as the top scoring (however few...) Female pilot of the war I believe she deserves special mention, even if not in this book.

Mikhail Bykov has a revised version of his book coming out and co-authored by V.A. Anokhin. It seems to be in Russian only again but will cover all the Soviet fighter aces (WW2 against the German and the Japanese. Also the Korean War.) The title "Все Истребительные Авиаполки Сталина. Первая Полная". It consists of 944 pages but has only 1500 prints.
