From Shores & Thomas, 2nd TAF, Vol 2, F/O R A B Slee was KIA in SR437. All claims and losses are at 1700, W of Emmerich.

Hello
I think that F/L Metzler of 65 squadron was killed in combat with II./JG 6 between 16.45 and 17.00 h (German time!)
F/O slee crashed one hour later and was killed in combat with 5./JG 26

Gentlemen,

Karl is correct. There are a couple of combats to be identified. Actually 17.9.1944 is one of the more "easier" dates....

1) Around 14.40 hrs (German Time) combat between 4th FG and 8. Staffel of II./JG 26. Bocholt area.

2) Around 14.45 hrs (German Time) combat between 361st FG and III./JG 26. Geldern-Emmerich area.

3) Around 16.45-17.00 hrs (German Time) combat between No. 65 Sqn and II./JG 6. Doetinchem area.

4) Around 17.50-17.55 hrs (German Time) combat between No. 602 Sqn and I./JG 26. Emmerich area.

5) Around 18.00-18.10 hrs (German Time) combat between No. 19 Sqn and II./JG 26 (5. and 6. Staffeln).

The time difference between Allied and German is one hour!

Cheers,

John
