Hi Wade

Thanks for you kind reply. I understand how difficult it can be to sort out all the conflicting sources concerning the armament that the Fw 190 series were fitted with at various times. As you point out what you are looking for here is the overall effect and not the correct number of rivets and their patterns! I wasn't trying to be a critic, just something I noticed and thought to bring to your attention. Please continue you work and keep us apprised of your progress.

Horrido!

Thanks for your reply. I just flipped through my references and I recall that my "primary" sources for the wing bulges were the Model Fan Encyclopaedia No. 3 on the Fw 190, and also the 1/32 Hasegawa A-6 kit. I really didn't look further than that for this particular item.

Yes, the refs may indeed be wrong - it's so hard to find good shots of A-6 upper wings, and one photo of any variant doesn't necessarily tell the definitive tale. So, as I said, I'll consult a few good refs and "trust" them.

There are drawings, not photos, that show no outer wing bulge on the A-6. Who's right? Hard to tell with Luftwaffe refs sometimes ...

Re: A-6 wing bulges

Wade:

I am afraid that Leo is correct about the upper wing bulges for the outer 20mm wing cannon. No operational A-6 ever carried these as it was not necessary for the 20mm MG151, only the later Mk 108 30mm due to its overall length.

As references you can hang your hat on the Model Art Special No 316 on the 190, Peter Rodeike's book, and the superb drawings of Bentley. What references do you have that show the A-6 with these upper wing bulges? Additionally, numerous photos of the A-6 show no such bulges.

It is a superb painting and we all want you to get it as correct as possible.

I'm sure you're right, but the bulges stay - what's done is done. I'll file the tidbit away for future A-6 ref.

To compromise, I certify that I left them off the right wing! ;)
