Yes… Hidden a couple of days in a Maquis camp near Vaumas, Fr., Lt. Stanley is back in his Unit on September 10th. (Assigned to 111th TRS on July 25, 1944.)

Fred

Keral,

Received this info from a helpful person:

The history records for the 111th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron do not include any listing of aircraft serial numbers. MACR records show seven aircraft lost on 31 Aug 44, with only one P-51 included – from the 52nd Fighter Group and lost in Rumania.

History record excerpts for 1/Lt Stanley E. Felix, O-668562:

1) Unit at St Raphael Airfield, France – Arrived 21 Aug 44 – Departed - “A” Echelon 1 Sep 44 – “B” Echelon 5 Sep 44
2) Purple Heart Medal, Rac/R Mission, Wounds received in action on 31 Aug 1944.
3) 31 Aug 44 entry – “Bad day for Pilots. Lt Felix was hit by flak from a German convoy near Moline and had to bail out. He landed in an open field and was surrounded by Frenchmen immediately, They all disappeared in the woods nearby. He’ll be back.”….
4) 10 Sep 44 entry - ….”Lt Felix stopped by to tell us of his escape from the Germans. He was shot down on his 13th mission and now must be sent home. He is mighty unhappy about having to go home for he has only been over here two months.

(Please note that he was withdrawn from the European theater because in case he got shot down again, he might compromise his French rescuers.)

Regards,

Leendert
