I wish Christer would not say I am too pigy, because overall, it was an excellent and highly recommand book.

This has been the case since volume 1, it should not come as a great surprise. The main difference has been the publishing value (Eagle Edition's house style), which has upped the price considerably compared to the more mass market volume 2.

BC/RS-series imho brings to the reader Soviet / Russian material that hasn't been available to us before. Unfortunately the bulk of it is made out of quoting or otherwise "refurbishing" already published material. Yes, it is still a step forward, compared to previously available material, but we'll have to wait for the next wave of Russian research to really dig into the Soviet archives. Only then will we get a proper mix and match, based on archival (primary), biographical and secondary sources.

Based on some of the latest Russian aviation publications we may not even have to wait that long.

What's going on???

Looks like Amazon is still waiting for its copies from the publisher. Eagle Editions Ltd. has been shipping for a couple of weeks now.

Hi Dénes,
Your order for both this and our book has shipped today. Thank you kindly! Sadly (for me anyway) I'm still waiting for your newest title to grace my mailbox. I hope I will receive it soon!

I've had my local bookstore chasing this for a while, when I spoke to them yesterday afternoon they said apparently the book has still not been published yet, let alone shipped.

Does anyone actually know what is going?

Re: Black Cross Red Star Vol. 3 - publication news

It has been published--I received my copy two weeks ago. If you're going through Amazon or another book dealer,it takes a bit longer to get.

One complaint about the BC/RS books, they're by no means free of errors. There was a thread in the Luftwaffe section about the Nowotny's victor in 1941which stated BC/RS identified the wrong pilot as victor.

Hi Nick;
Black Cross Red Star #3 has been published and is shipping; however, Amazon has yet to place their order. I have emailed them several times about the availability of this title but they have not responded. Until I have a purchase order number we cannot ship books to them.
Sorry about that, but you could order either direct from us or from any other book seller.
Thanks in advance,
Judy Crandall

From your note above, the December 5 shipping date that they have quoted is obviously nonsense as they haven't placed any order with you guys... amazing as I placed my order with them back in October!! Makes you want to pull your hair out at the very least!

WHAT?....sigh!, sorry Nick. I have emailed my contact three times and again today. I don't know what their problem is...usually they are easy to work with. Hopefully they will sort it out soon. Is there an alternate bookseller for you? Let me know if I can be of additional assistance.

Hi again Judy, thanks for your continued efforts with Amazon. I have also used www.historicaviation.com in the past to obtain your books but they do not have BCRS 3 listed on their site for some reason. Have just emailed them to inquire but main reason for utilising Amazon was the reasonable shipping costs to NZ.

Nick,
Judy told me that they can handle M-Bag. Surface mail will cost you $11US, and air mail I think about $34US (not sure, I don't use it often). These rates cover the first 11 pounds, and then the rate goes up about $1US per pound. Those are the rates charged by the US Post Office; I don't remember if Eagle Editions adds a handling charge. Just another option.

Frank.

Thanks for the info Frank, I'm looking into the alternatives on how to source this book.

Still showing as not yet published on Amazon.co.uk, so being the shy person that I am, I sent this e-mail:
"Book: Black Cross Red Star Volume 3, published by Eagle Editions.
Your site says it is not yet published, yet the Publishers have been shipping for several weeks now. Why is it not yet available through Amazon? And please don't come back to me and say it is not published yet, as there are several people on Luftwaffe forums who already have a copy."

Let's see what they come back with...

Got my copy today. Just skimmed through it but must say on first impressions I'm not going to be disappointed. Particularly like the detailed order of battle appendices.

Best Regards

Andy Fletcher

P.S. Hope there are detailed VVS order of battle appendices for the Kuban campaign in forthcoming volumes (I presume the Kuban will be covered in the next volume).

Re: Black Cross Red Star Vol. 3 - publication news

Hi Guys - Nick, as a rule Historic Aviation will buy from Motorbooks International who HAS ordered and received their books. Hopefully Historic Aviation will have their stock soon.
As for shipping via M-Bag, the minimum weight we can ship is 11 lbs, so you would have to order at last two books to get a good rate.
Let me know what happens okay? I don't like being held hostage by book sellers, but I guess we all are, huh?
Have you tried Helion?
I know Flight 66 in paris should have their books by now, Christian Schmidt also orders from Motorbooks, so they probably don't have theirs yet either. Keep me posted on your efforts.
John - I have a call in to my contact Monsoor at Amazon, hopefully he will call me back and enlighten me.
Andy - Yes, Christer et al...did a very fine job

I just checked with the bookstore which has my order, and they say that it is on back-order and that their supplier, Baker and Taylor, are still claiming that it is yet to be published.

Has it actually be shipped to Australia, yet?

TIA

BCRS#3 update - hi guys, FINALLY Amazon placed their initial order today! Whew...will ship either tomorrow or Monday to their warehouse.
Australia has been shipped quite a while ago so they should have their stock by now. Baker and Taylor has placed their initial order which was shipped last week and just today we got another order from them which will ship next week.
Hopefully this will get everyone up to speed!

Re: Black Cross Red Star Vol. 3 - publication news

Here's the reply I finally got from amazon.co.uk:
"...Please accept my apologies for not providing updated information
about the delay.

After looking into your enquiry I found that the book "Black Cross
Red Star Volume 3" has been published and it has the
availability "Usually dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks" in our website.

We do appreciate that sometimes the amount of information we display
may make it difficult to make a purchasing decision, unless you
already know something about the item. Our editorial staff are
constantly working on increasing the information we provide about
each item as it becomes available to us. However, the information
currently displayed on the productÂ’s information page is all that
has so far been made available to us from the publisher.

For your information the URL for the book is given below,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Cross-Red-Star-Eastern/dp/0976103443

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact
us using the following link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/email

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk..."

So the stock is now advertised, we know it is with them, but 4-6 weeks shipping...? How not to do business.

This may or may not prove useful to others, but I just received vol 3 of BC/RS today. I bought it Dec 23 on eBay as "Buy It Now" from Pace Hobbies at a great price - US$51.75 (shipping extra). Unfortunately, there isn't another copy listed on his eBay store, but it might be worth asking him if he has another copy at that price.

Re: Black Cross Red Star Vol. 3 - publication news

I have still yet to hear any good news about my copy. My local bookstore has informed me that their supplier has yet to receive any copies for distribution. I missed out on Vol.1 due to this reason and I'll be stuffed if I miss out on Vol.3 due to dodgy shipping and supply. Any info from either Christer or Judy would be very much appreciated

P.S. - I am not a resident of a major city - I live in country Australia.

Re: Black Cross Red Star Vol. 3 - publication news

Hello Adam;
Don't know what you mean when you say "...dodby shipping and supply." We can only ship to distributors when they place an order. Currently all BCRS#3 orders placed by distributors have been shipped. You might inquire of your book store as to who is their supplier. Then privately let me know who that might be and I can put a cattle prod on them...okay?
Don't worry, you won't miss out on #3, I'll personally see to that. Just let me know the details and I'll take care of it. I appreciate you supporting your local bookstore.
