To John and others,

There are only two things that keep a publisher in business: producing high quality work and continuing to produce high quality work. I know this first-hand.

No one should defend this book. No one. Why do people spend a lot of money to buy books published by JaPo, for example?

An author who ignores historical facts cannot be taken seriously. I know of another such author. She also got things wrong, corrections were posted and other relevant books were mentioned as a corrective to her's. Apparently, this did not stop with that one book. She gained additional "recognition," and for what?

Credentials means you get it right. Once you do that then it's a job well done. Calling it harassing is also wrong in this case. Finally, the publisher needs to maintain its reputation. Once tarnished, it will be hard to regain trust.

Why invoke imaginary demons when plain old capitalism provides all the explanation needed for the publisher's choices: they were offered, or they commissioned, a book for which they thought there was a market. It's hardly the first time a title has been imperfectly informative either, and the simple addition of "and the Blitz" would have disposed of many of the objections raised here.

I bet that if the author had been "John Smith" the reception would have been much less effusive and more critical, if, indeed, the book had ever reached the stage of publication.

You clearly do not know me. My response would have been exactly the same as all I have written in this thread.

I was not referring to your response but to that of the mass media. I do not doubt that your response would have been the same.

I don't believe you can 'second-guess' the media...

From her 'X' account. The latest 'self-publicity...

'Cornerstone of the next generation of Battle of Britain historiography.' What a load of pompous poppycock!

'written on the same old topics' - Yeah, Simon Parry's 'Battle of Britain Combat Archive' series on the actual events of the period skins your book alive!

'I didn't want this to be a nice book' It wasn't...
