Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I'm afraid the American GI that wrote Babenhausen on the back of the photos is no longer around to explain.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Rudi,
The first picture in your post #843 was taken in a hangar at Horsching-Linz probably after October 1945. A similar picture can be seen on page 16 Wings of the Black Cross number eight . thanks again, Jim |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The second photo appears to be the Fieseler built D-9 601444 found at Eschwege, Germany.

Here is a photo of Dora 9 "White 5" from III./JG 2. This photo along with the photos of "White 12" from II./JG 2 were taken at Babenhausen, an not Zellhausen. However, JG 2 used these airfields as necessary. Both of these units moved to Babenhausen in the middle of February 1945.
In April III./JG 2 moved on from Babenhausen. There was a lot of movement of JG 2 around the Frankfurt area toward the end. Cheers, Jerry |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Does the 3rd a/c (190?) in the 4th photo have a Ta 152 tail?

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
During their time at Florennes the 1.(F)/121 was only equipped with the Me 410. The Staffel received the first Bf 109G-6 in September at Langendiebach.

Merlin, You're positive about the arrival of Bf 109 G-6 in the 1.(F)/121 inventory after they left Florennes ? Cheers Marc |

How should I understand the word "night" in the sentence "15 crews of which 6 night" ? ... It is interesting to compare this sentence with a picture's back coming from an old auction. The corresponding photo depicting one of the two Bf109 photographed at Florennes. You can read "Nite kite". Is there a relation between "6 night" and "nite kite" ? :) Next, at the bottom of same back it is written 9/11/44... Ho should I read it? 11 September or 9 November ? :) (bis.) Regards, Franck. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I understand it as 6 crews qualified in night flying Recce (using flares, flash bombs etc.)

But why do you think the guy thought one Bf109 was a Night Fighter? |

This settles the case of 1.(F)/121 then... So from which unit are those two 109's found in Florennes ? Cheers Marc |

The 109 is Bf 109 G-6 W.Nr. 18 360 "Weisse 5", 4./JG 77, found wrecked on 25 August 1943 at Foggia Hauptplatz. Source: Prien, p 1843. Cheers Marc |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The 3 Ju 88 photos in the lower right corner are interesting. The machine is either sporting an SKZ, or this might be the first KG 60 machine (P1+__) I think I've ever seen in photos.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello,
Thank you Rudis for the Fw 190. I think this is a plane from the Luftflotte 4 with the yellow band on the nose, but from wich unit ? SG 2 or SG 10 ? It look like a F-9 model but i'm not sure. It's very difficult to see the differences between the F-8 and the F-9. Best regards, Lumabe |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I./SG2 Mr Lumabe, because of the wooden rocket rack for Pb1/M8.
(I./SG10 was panzerschreck only ) |

What a strange blending of photos here: Beyond the mentioned types, the following can be said for the 109's: 1. A Bf 109 G-8, given the camera hatch fairing leaning against the lower rear fuselage. 2. Seen form afar is probably the Mühlhdorf-am-Inn Frontschleuse with one of the many I./EJG 1 Bf 109's which ended up there. 4. Among the shots is a still from Hartmann's G-6 W.Nr. 166 221 in September 1944. 5. Bf 109 G-14/AS W.Nr. 786 476, "Schwarze 7", 2./JG 52, Deutsch Brod, May 1945. Published in Janda and Poruba 2004, p. 21. 6. This IV./JG ? Bf 109 G-6 rings a bell... can't remember where I've seen it though... Cheers Marc |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Indeed a strange mix Marc, usually i pass these for obvious reasons but i had not seen most of them.
