Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Snautzer,

I don't think so. The launcher in the video does not have a barrel. The ring-like framework means this projectile would be unguided. And I didn't see a method of firing it. Even the panzerfaust was a little better in this regard. I would hate to think the loaders pulled an igniter at the back end, loaded the shell and the aimer only had seconds to aim before it went off.

The launcher, or duel launcher, in the video would have made a better bombardment weapon, especially if two or more were firing in the same direction.

Hi everyone
I bought this pics with the He 111Z because I am interested in this type from operational history at Dijon-Longvic and Dole-Tavaux.

Maybe I can bring "some more light in the darkness", there is a writing on the back, which says:
"5-motored German plane at airport near Beedenbostel, May 1945".

Beedenbostel is near Celle, in the triangle Celle-Wesendorf-Gifhorn in Lower Saxony.
As I see, there were some airfields used by the Luftwaffe in this area (-> www.ww2.dk).
Maybe someone of you can now exactly locate where this pictures have been taken.

Regards

Harry

As I own several pictures (from the guy who took them) of this He 111 Z when it was still flying and also as a wreck in April 1946 (i.e. a year after it was blown up and some 11 months after the Ebay pictures where taken), I'm quite sure it was Fliegerhorst Dedelstorf. When you compare the May 1945 photos with those from April 1946, they are virtually identical even down to the angle under which they were taken. Also, when you look at Larry deZeng's "Luftwaffe Airfields 1935 - 1945" at the above mentioned website, you will see that the presence of this aircraft is not illogical considering the training units stationed at Dedelstorf ("paratroops (Fallschirmjäger) training and as an NSFK glider school").

@Harry, I bought 2 of these He 111 Z wreck photos from the same series/seller. I'm willing to share info and scans. Would you please send me a PM?

Best regards,

Marcel

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Rudi,
Thank you for this nice album where the only one clear is a picture of Sicilian worker drinking using a bùmmulu, called Canari in Africa ;)
Regards,
Franck.
PS: CV-V, too, WNr.10639, G-2/Trop, the famous "Schwarze 6" too. Hence this photo album is a little bit more than "captured German photographies" album.
