Visible near the GI’s shoulder is a part of what I think is a white wedge on its upper rudder; a form of marking noted on at least ten other Bf109’s from various NAG units in my files.

Thanks for your fine spotting ! This wedge is indeed known on various NAGr. machines, and has also been noted on III./EJG 1 machines found at Hodkovice in May 1945.

The photo we discuss shows with high probability Erla built Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. unknown "Gelbe 12", possibly from an unknown NAGr, found at Kassel-Rothwesten in May 1945 as evidenced by the conspicuous RLM 02 (?) repair patch on the lower rear fuselage, visible just in front of the tail wheel. This specific feature is also to be seen on other photos available from that particular machine.

Besides EJG 1, we have also Bf 109 G-14 W-Nr.463 141 "Schwarze 17", from 2./NAGr. 14, which landed for surrender at Fürth, 8 May 1945, sporting this white triangle.
Hence the possibility this white triangle mark was not limited to one unit and this has some wider meaning. If memory serves well, this issue was already discussed on TOCH.

Hello Rudi,
Post #2677 is Junkers-Bernburg-built Ju 88 G-6 night fighter (WNr. 622126) marked 4R+PP (PP=gray), from 6./II./NJG2, and found crashed in a farmer's field near Fl.Horst Illesheim (coordinates 49.475000 10.383333).
