Looks like it's a French machine (FFI, Group Dor, then GB 1/31 "Aunis") used against the Royan pockect (?). I'm not that sure though.
Look under the wing, we can see the French cockade.

Correction: He177 A-7 WNr.550256, used by Group Dor, effectively but transferred to USAF. On 28 November 1944 Col. Watson flew it. Ferried to Villacoublay by Col. Coster. Landed at Orly because of mechanical problems. Took off on 1 March 1945 (!) after repairs but took fire; destroyed.

This is a bit at odds with what Phil Butler wrote in his War Prizes and also the He 177 book by Smith/Creek. Aircraft was an A-5 sub-version. Nothing about any French service (only overhauled where it was surrendered). Name of Coster was Lt Col Robert J. Koster and it was DBR on 28 Feb 1945 due to a ground loop caused by a burst tyre.

I think you should read the stuff one more time. There is a quote in English which says the same thing (partly) as the book by Phil Butler.

The site also refers to a Vol 1 of Les Avions Allemands aux couleurs Francaises but fails to note the correction in vol 2 where the same authors correct themselves saying that no He 177 was ever flown by Armée de l'Air, only by SNCASE and CEV.

The Airdoc books have received some criticism within French circles as being not 100% well researched (I find them never-the-less very useful), but if I have to chose, I would go with the version listed by Phil Butler.

I think you should read the stuff one more time: well, do it first! In the english part it is written "This He-177A-5 (GP+RY/Wk-Nr 550256) was modified to become one of the few He 277/4-7 pattern aircraft in summer 1944."
Another point:
Group Dor was a FFI resistant group organisation INSIDE the SNCASE to build/repair/fly the machine they have at Toulouse, it wasn't the French Air Force. It became GB 1/31 "Aunis" in December 1944. So yes, this machine wasn't flown by the French Air Force.
And I wrote - considering the Royan pocket: "I'm not sure though".


I'm not here to write book criticism specially about He177, but considering Butler Bf109's captions I will not give one penny for his books. ;)
