Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Thank you Ed,
This (to me) looks like a downed Spitfire. However the a/c letter and position of the Squadron Code is (to me) quite odd.
Port Side of the a/c shows letter "J" aft of which is what looks like a painted out roundel . Aft of that is the Squadron Code "PM" and aft of that near to the fin and tail plane is a "new" roundel with a thin outer yellow ring. Cannot say that I have seen this type of markings before ?

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Alex,

Based on my limited knowledge, I agree. A roundel was painted out and the letter J with the top bar is not typical.

Best,
Ed

#2943 : It is Fairey Battle PM-J_K9374 ; 25 photos of this a/c with no typical markings are known...

103 Squadron Battles seem to have had their large roundels painted out and smaller ones added when they transferred to France. I have a period image of aircraft painted like this even before the tail flashes were added in the Battle of France.
