Re: Fulmar claims

Hello
Does anybody know at what time took off Sub-Lt.(A) P.E. Palmer from HMS Argus with his Fulmar?
And at what time he shot down Ltt Salaün's D520?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Franck

Hi Keith and other Fulmar officiardos

Interesting posting, indeed.

I have a note that two Fulmars of 809 Squadron from HMS Victorious shot down Do18 8L+HL of 3./KuFlGr.906 on 11 September 1941. Can anyone confirm this and identify the Fulmar pilots concerned?

PS: Keith, you make no reference to 809 Squadron's involvement in the Petsamo/Kirkenes
raid on 30 July 1941, when Fulmars (pilots Grenfell, Wilkinson and Cooper) claimed two Bf110s and a Bf109.

Additionally, a BV138 was claimed on 9 March 1941 (pilots unknown).

Cheers
Brian

PPS: thanks to those concerned for the unsolicited plugging my recent book '806 RNAS' !!!

Cheers to you Brian, any chance you are thinking about a book on the Victorious squadrons in the Pacific ? :)

Yep I had the Kirkenes/Petsamo raid claims (the LG account post-war also credits a Bf110 probable) and the Do 18 (but not the LW unit) from "Send her Victorious" (my first FAA book). Even after all this time the two claimants haven't been identified as far as I know, and there is a question in my mind over which of the three pilots identified on the Kirkenes raid (Grenfell, Cooper and Wilkinson) shot down the Bf109. I believe Victor Cyril Grenfell picked up a DSO for his leadership on this mission.

best regards

Keith

Hi Keith

Good to hear from you.

Sub-Lt(A) John Cooper was credited with the Bf109.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers
Brian

Cheers Brian!

If you'll keep writing them I'll be happy to keep buying, reading, and plugging them!

Brian,

I believe the Bv 138 you note on 9 March 1941 is actually a damaged claim on 9 March 1942. CR: ADM 199/166-662, no serial numbers, but it does list the crew members of the 4 Fulmars.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Hi Frank

Good to hear from you.

Yes, you're correct, a slip of the typing finger!

I would appreciate to learn the names of the four Fulmar crews, please.

Nothing for 11 September 1941?

Cheers
Brian

But you have a life. An unconventional one :)
