Re: News from Greece

Hi, Byron

With regards to the unit designation I have found the answer. In the Vortrag zum Einsatzbereitschaft der fliegenden Verbänden Stand: 10.5.1943 it is stated that the Stab Sturzkampfgeschwader 151 is to be formed in Agram under the command of Luftwaffenstab Kroatien. In addition, EFFECTIVE FROM 1.6.43 (in German ... mit Wirkung vom 1.6.43 ...), the Ergänzungsstaffeln of Sturzkampfgeschwader 1, 2, 3, 5, and 77 is renamed and reformed into I., II., III., IV. and V./Sturzkampfgeschwader 151, each with a Gruppenstab, 1. and 2. Staffel.

This was thus the last loss registered under the old unit designation, in fact happening on the day the unit changed designation, and could have been I guess reported with both designations.

This means that the information on Michael Holms page along with the source for your information should be updated, and that the renaming and reforming dates for these units changed to 1.6.43.

Regards,
Andreas B

Re: News from Greece

Thanks Andreas,

everything is clear now. It`s a strange coincidence the death of the two airmen at 01.06.43, the very day of the unit change.
They are actually recorded belonging to the Ergänzungsstaffel of the St.G. 3

I `ll put an other subject concerning Stab./St.G. 3 (according to the Fp.Nr.)

the following two pics are from a "Flugbuch" of that unit.

Can anyone give an info about "Staffelführer Ltn. Walter" and the other guy "Oberleutnant and Staffelführer .......", whoes name I can`t read ?

Re: News from Greece

Evening Byron,
with regard to the Heinkel 111's you refer to on 27.1.42 from 6/KG26,
I have not been able to locate within the GQM6 lists.

I do however have two incidents on 26.1.42 both a/c being from 6/KG26 suffering fatal damage.
These are as follows:

He111H-6 W.Nr 4433 1H+? P
Crashed nr Heraklion 100%
5 crew all killed.
Pilot Oblt Karl-Heinz Bock.

He111H-5 W.Nr 3874 1H+?P
Aircraft accidently struck the ground and crashed nr Fl.Pl. Heraklion 100%
3 crew killed, 1 wounded.
Pilot Lt Horst Simon.

Perhaps 1 of these losses is 1H+AP?

Many thanks for bringing these reports to our attention, they are most interesting!
Best regs,
Steve.
