Re: Leck He 162s

I recently saw a photo of 3 He 162s following capitulation setting inan open shed,i.e., roof only. I was unable to copy the image and made onle notes, which indicated that the W.Nr. was 3??110, it is possible the second and third digits were 1 and 5. Does this make any sense? If so, would that give any indication as to the location?

Best regards,

Artie Bob

Re: Leck He 162s

* Hi Artie,

Could you tell us more:
- where have you seen the image: book, web site, ebay?
- were the airplanes with camo or not, with wings and jet engines or not?
- in any case W.Nr. must be in the 300... or 310... range, not 315...

* Hi Simon,

- Unfortunately, got not enough free time to add all those question marks, i prefer to make you wait a little but post only one corrected file.

- About Enderle i m like you, got only the 2 photos from E.Mombeeck published in Defenders of the Reich V3 and the lost list published in his older "Defending the Reich" so no W.Nr.... Indeed i agree camo and not visible gun so it's an A-1 in the 310... W.Nr. range.

Re: Leck He 162s

Dear Gentlemen,

I've read your discussion and your attached list. There you wrote the
information that Werk-Nr. 310012 was marked with "Red 7". I own a
photo of this He 162 without any number, dated with Leck, 8.5.45.
The plane is not standing in one of the lines beside the runway.
What do you think about that?
When I have a look at another photo of the left side of the runway,
the second He 162 behind the "White 4" is definitely not the same
machine because the rudder is painted in a different colour. Maybe
the rudder was changed.
At last I thought, that the 120222 was the "White 23". You can find
a photo of this machine in German ebay.

Re: Leck He 162s

The photo was in a USNavy intelligence report at NARA II, college Park,MD. Finding info: RG 72 Box 2 folder 101-45. Most of the personnel there are pretty helpful, but this particular day I was dealing with the archivist from Hell, who was on a bit of a power trip and exercising his god-like power to determine what could be copied on the Xerox. IIRC the aircraft were pretty complete, but almost certainly had not yet been flown.

Best Regards,

Artie Bob

ps. Technical note, IIRC there are fairly complete blueprints of the 162 airframe on microfilm at NASM archives. ab

Best regards,

Re: Leck He 162s

Artie, thanks for the reference, it seems this photo was not yet published, hope some one from Classics or from Monogram will do that soon since they are both working on the He 162...

Hohentwiel, like as Artie, it seems the photo you have from 310012 is unknown up to now... Fins and rudders from red 7 at Leck were blue (RLM 76) what is the color from your 310012? Is there any chance we can see the image one day, ie is a publication on the way? If yes dont forget to advertise us ;)

Updated file soon...

Re: Leck He 162s

Hi together!

I found the pages of Lt. Schmitt's Flightbook in the book

Heinkel He 162
"Volksjäger"
Entwicklung Produktion Einsatz
Verlag Dr. Alfred Hiller, Wien

Very interesting is the fact that the planes that were flown byLt. Schmitt are listed with tactical markings and others with Werknumbers.

flight 604 - April 3rd 1945 He 162 White 1 from Parchim to Parchim
flight 605 - April 4th 1945 He 162 120013 from Ludwigslust to Parchim
flight 606 - April 8th 1945 He 162 120068 from Rostock-Marienehe to Ludwigslust
flight 607 - April 15th 1945 He 162 White 7 from Ludwigslust to Husum
flight 608 - April 16th 1945 He 162 White 7 from Husum to Leck
flight 609 - April 20th 1945 He 162 White 7 Leck
flight 610 - April 25th 1945 He 162 White 5 Leck
flight 611 - May 4th 1945 He 162 White 1 Leck
flight 612 - May 4th 1945 He 162 White 2 Leck

As you can see the White 1 is listened before the 120013. So I think the well known White 1 is not Werknumber 120013 as Olivier Menu wrote in his list. I think 120068 didn't have a tactical number at this date because the plane was flown from Heinkel factory to JG 1. Red 6 was applied after the plane arrived there.

What do you think about that?

Cheers, Simon

Re: Leck He 162s

Thanks Simon,

You remember me when I have hand copied those data in the book shop in 1984 since i was 20 years old but got no money to buy the books i would in that time... ;)

I agree we can imagine that 120068 got no tactical number on 8th April 45 but this certainly doesn't mean that there is still no tactical number one month later...

About 120013 i dont really understand if it doesnt already had any tactical number or not?

Would be nice also if someone could give us the data about H.Künnecke since copies from his logbook are available: He flew w1 and w2 at Parchim but then?
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=6243160991

Note: Simon I m still hard working on the He 162 list with the help from D.Brown. I will also try to contact some authors about sensitive case... 120015 is still puzzling, P.Couderchon recently told me the basic paint emblem was in a yellow color...

Did anyone also have the following pages from this document?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...0-2022p1ss.jpg
I only have this first page which comes from Air 40/2022 report, that i know could probably be ordered from the net but the final price could be important...

Thanks...

Re: Leck He 162s

And about white 1, you are right Simon i have a big question mark. 120013 is what is supposed from many publications i saw but the proof is missing. There is a well known photo showing the fins from w1, w5 and w3 but sun reflects made it impossible to read the W.Nr. on published material...
Now did white1 crash and then 120013 became the new w1 or not? Cant say...

Re: Leck He 162s

Olivier!

White 1 is a mystery. Maybe possible that 120013 was flown by JG 1 during the time in Ludwigslust. Have to check the JG 1 history if they lost planes at that time.

I'm in contact with the ebay-winner of the flightbook from Heinz Künnecke!

Cheers, Simon

Re: Leck He 162s

Dear all,
I recomend that you have a look atthe website
http://memorial.flight.free.fr for the restoration of one of the
French 162s from Leck 120015 said to be White 21 rather than
yellow1.
Excellent pictures of the aircraft under restoration.
