Hi Andrus

Excellent information - this really turns just a name into a real person. I'm sure there is more to come. I would seem that his final score would have been 28 or so.

Can anyone decipher the dates of Salwender's kill markings shown on the excellent photo contributed by Franck?

Exciting times!
Cheers
Brian

Credit to Rune Rautio, he managed to decipher these dates:

Last russian 15. september 1941 and the last british at 27. september. 1941.

No doubt this matches with Andrus information, although I guess the 15 might be a 17.

There is also something else to note with the photo posted by Franck, under mark number five, there is a 30 or 50 mark in a wreath/ribbon. What is this?

And this seem to prove that Salwender had two different tails, the known pictures has the kill marks closer and there is no marking under mark nr 5. So this probably isn't W.Nr. 1333, which he was MIA in.

Hi

I haven't seen the 'other' photo you mention - and chance of posting it?

Salwender has again 25th claim, so there is error in documents or some claim was not confimed?

I've only got it described, never seen it my self.

A little flawed logic here, I mean that this last photo might be of W.Nr. 1333, and not the first photo of his tail.

The original photo might even include a W.Nr. since that area has been obfuscated on the ebay-preview.

Hi guys

Reference to an earlier posting by Johannes, there is a photo in one of Jochen Prien's books showing the rudder of Salwender's Bf109 with 19 kill markings.

Can anyone scan this? Are the dates discernible?

We are getting there!

Cheers
Brian
