One more query.
On Page 93, M8+IM is listed as WNr.2836 on 6.6.40. On Page 94, M8+IM is listed as WNr.2835 on 15.6.40. Which is correct? Or was one a replacement for the other? |
Re: Zerstörergeschwader 76 Zerstörergeschwader 76 -- History of the German Luftwaffe unit 1939 - 1945
The information originates from Flugbuch of Herbert Jentsch... I checked it now and he changed the 2836 between these dates to 2835. It is clearly readable (on previous and following pages). I do not know this reason, it would be a great coincidence to receive new aircraft just one W.Nr.digit different (but not impossible?). Unfortunatelly I do not know a photo of M8+IM to confirm any of these W.Nrs.

Next one, WNr.3092.
This is listed as: 17.5.40 M8+DM 100% 12.6.41 damaged 30% Presumably a typo in the official records? |

Regarding the Hampden losses on the night of 5/6 July 1941 (Page 167), the two machines lost on this night were:
AD739 EA-A of 149 Sqn (as listed) AD806 of 61 Sqn The mentioned AD871 was lost on the following night on an operation to Brest, France. |

Re: Zerstörergeschwader 76 Zerstörergeschwader 76 -- History of the German Luftwaffe unit 1939 - 1945
Regarding posts #26 and #28
Bomber Command Losses 1941 (Chorley) has the following: 5/6 July AD739 EA-A of 49 Sqdn operating from Scampton on a sortie to Osnabrück, lost without trace. With regard to the comment that this aircraft was from 149 Sqdn - 149 was operating Wellingtons at that time not Hampdens. 149 instead of 49 - probably a simple typo. AD806 QR-? of 61 Sqdn operating from Hemswell on a sortie to Osnabrück, lost without trace. 6/7 July AD871 PL-? 144 Sqdn operating from Hemswell on a sortie to Brest, lost without trace. (by 17 July this unit had moved to North Luffenham) All of the above crews commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. |

6/7 July 41 NCA has Hampton AD871 hit by Flak of Flak Rgt 100 and crashed in sea off Brest, as a possible fate.
