Re: KG 40 Combat History
That's great news!
Thank you for all the hard work in getting this from desk top to press to print. Edward |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
As the book is so big, there are bound to be errors (not deliberate!) hence I intend producing an errata list on 12 OCH in due course
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Ordered an example via the Aviation Megastore in the Netherlands. I am surprised it is already available there. I am especially interested in the Soesterberg period of KG 40.

Re: KG 40 Combat History
My copies arrived today and will admit the quality of printing looks good.
3 corrections already: Page 171 column 1 penultimate para change 890 Sqn to 881 SqnSuch things will creep in! |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Glad everyone is enjoying the book! It's selling super fast, over half of the print run in a week so don't sleep on this, get your order in!
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
I am just about to order it.
However, I am always a bit bemused that when postage charges are added, it is always cheaper to buy a Chandos book from a bookseller rather than direct. As these sellers are presumably taking a cut of the purchase price, surely you would sell more yourself by doing free postage, or at least matching the £2.50/£2.99 that others charge. Or am I missing something? |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
My copy of Chris Goss' wonderful new book, KG 40: The Luftwaffe's Multi-Roll Strike Wing, 1940-1045 arrived today in south Georgia, USA (near Savannah).
Kudos to Mr. Goss and Chandos Publications for bringing this new history to a wide audience. The book arrived in perfect condition (even the corners!) due to excellent packaging - it was double-boxed and within a plastic bag. Thanks to Royal Mail and USPS for the prompt delivery. Looking forward to begin reading it tonight. Edward |

Re: KG 40 Combat History
My copy showed up in Canada today. First looks, very impressive presentation. will say more once I get reading
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
I have documents and log books to a few men who flew with KG 40 and, having had a first look through my copy, it is immediately clear that there is a huge amount of information in there to assist with my research. Chris Goss has done a tremendous job on this book and Chandos have provided production quality to match.
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Agreed! Quality of the physical book matches what Chris has done perfectly - it is a very high quality product indeed and a standout unit history. The main body of the book is what you would expect from Chris but I have to say I found the appendices worth their weight in gold alone. Chris has detailed every single combat loss, major damage or accident in the war in intricate detail -over 1000 aircraft alone. Certainly makes you realise how dangerous those overwater missions were with no hope of rescue -the vast majority of combat losses show all the crew as mia/kia.
Anyway, well done Chris and Rich - worth every little penny and then some. |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Very many thanks for the kind comments everyone!
One or two little errors here and there but I hope to create an errata page on my website in due course, and I'm sure Chris will do the same here. |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Errata already in motion...............

Re: KG 40 Combat History
Don’t forget Robert Forsyth who (sort of!) pushed me to do this and the hard work done by Mark Nelson and of course Rich. It might be my name on the cover but it will always be a team effort
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
absolutely Chris - and the hard work means the book has nearly sold out in less than a month....
I estimate 25 copies left in stock. I won't be reprinting unless I get a minimum number of backorders, so if you haven't pulled the trigger yet don't hesitate.... |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Did you send some copies to Berliner Zinnfiguren already?
I ordered my copy there together with the latest volume of the BoB combat archive but the guys in German still await delivery of their volumes of the KG40 history it seems as my order has not been sent out yet... |

Re: KG 40 Combat History
Good News Leon!
I just got a shipment confirmation and the tracking code for the DHL shipment from BZF. seems like they are sending out the pre-ordered books now, even though their webpage shows the book as not available yet... can't wait to receive it, and the new BoB Combat Archive volume as well... |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Hope you approve when you get it especially as it looks like a reprint MIGHT be needed after being available for 3 weeks! I leave this to Rich
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
I am sure it will be a top job just like all your other books Chris.
your recent Osprey Steinbock book was just great and to further shorten the waiting time and increase the anticipation, I had to dig up Bloody Biscay again and read a bit in it :) fingers crossed here that DHL delivers before the weekend. weather is predicted to be cold and wet, just perfect for immersing myself in the latest additions to my collection... |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Thanks for your kind comments and hope you are pleased with the book
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Any news about the reprint?
I'm waiting for Lela Presse to have it back in stock. |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
Alfred - reprint if I get enough back orders. Currently I have only half of what I need to justify the cost.
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
This will push the eBay price up until then! However, there are none on Ebay UK at the moment so at least the book as gone to readers who wanted the book
|
Re: KG 40 Combat History
I looks as if a reprint is on the cards so if anyone has any corrections, please PM or email me

Re: KG 40 Combat History
I'm pleased to announce a limited reprint has been ordered today (03 July 2025)!
This *will* be limited, and I've already allocated most of the print order. If you want a copy let me know ASAP, I'll add your name to my list. I'll update my website ordering page plus my eBay sales page in due course. Thanks for the continued interest! Rich |
Re: KG 40 Combat History
If anyone is interested, 2nd print run sold out. If anyone is after a copy though, PM me

Re: KG 40 Combat History
I’ve finally finished reading this excellent book, which I really enjoyed.
Here are some comments, mainly relating to “the numbers”. Some will be typos, others down to errors in the records, and some possibly down to my own errors. I offer them in good faith. P103 I thought D-AMHL was lost on 27 September 1944? P190 WNr.550062 became TS439 P195 Kuntze’s machine is correctly listed as WNr.3101 in the boxed text, but WNr.31312 lower down on the page. P244 Correct Mosquito serial is DZ375 Now on to the most useful loss tables (Appendix I) 4.12.40 – I don’t think WNr.2302 is valid for a He111 29.4.41 – WNr.0054 was F8+HH 15.7.43 – WNr 15175 – an identical loss is also listed on 15.7.44 14.10.43 – WNr.0089 is listed as F8+JH in your Fw200 book (Classic 28) 18.12.43 – WNr.535743 is also listed as 100% on 21/22.2.44 26.11.43 – WNr.535371 is also listed as 100% on 26/27.1.44 29.4.44 – WNr.550142 is also listed as 100% on 14/15.5.44 7/8.6.44 – both WNr.550211 and WNr.535731 are listed as F8+LK 13/14.6.44 – this should be WNr.550048 (which was KM+TX) |

Re: KG 40 Combat History
Most helpful Andy and thank you. With a book of this size, such errors whether self-inflicted or otherwise are inevitable (the number of times we read, corrected, re-read and corrected loss list is proof of this!) and I will go through this today
