Photo 3. B-17F 42-5137 "Carol Jean IV" 32BS / 301BG missing 30 Oct.43 from Oudna no.2 (Tunisia) on mission to Turin ball-bearing factory, came down in Gulf of Genoa with engine fire. Also named "Lead Foot". MACR 1060; 2-star admirer looks like Doolittle when c/o NASAF.

(photo 4).
B-25C 41-13092 "El Raunch" 381BS/310BG Tunisia-Algeria 1943. Usual pilot 2/Lt. R.W. Therrien. Salvaged 14 Sept. 44.
Doolittle again, not too happy, maybe a duff engine. Others in the Sqn. at this time were........
"Green Hornet", "Lorelei", "Taboo", "Punjab", "Lil Joe", "Lottie's Goose", "Balls of fire". Group marking originally yellow horizontal tail band, later squadron colour band added below (yellow in 381st). Note Inglewood factory colour division.

Regards
Nick

Well Nick, he had a lot on his mind back then so perhaps not every day was a happy one? :)

What ever, I can't help a remark here, that in spite of his name, few Americans actually did so much
as he did in his lifetime.

Cheers
Stig
