POST 3786.
Photo 1. B-25J former strafer with guns removed, from 71BS "Wolf Pack" (38BG) post-war in Japan at Itazuke or Itami ; C-47A in back is 43-15419 salvaged 23 Feb. 46. Yellow tail tip on B-25.
2. Probably B-24L "Mary Lou" 827BS / 484BG with 49th.Wing Italy. Not positive. Red tail tip (Wing colour) and red "bow-tie" below.
3. B-24H (Ford) "Miss Maggie" 42-52207 738BS / 454BG San Giovanni; white tail bottom hence nick-name "Cottontails", white diamond at top (304th. Wing symbol) battle number 63. Survived.
4. B-24H (Ford) "Old Ironsides" 42-52170, original plane in 717BS / 449BG at Grottaglia; shot down by Flak on Belgrade mission no.61, 18 May 44, all 9 crew evaded. Black (or blue) triangle in white disc (Wing marking) with "3" below (3rd. Group in Wing). Plane number on rudder in block 41-60. "543" is C/N. MACR 5060.
5. B-26G "It ain't easy" 44-68113, 585BS / 394BG "Bridge Busters" based at Holmsley South. Pilot's name below cockpit, 1/Lt. Gerald E "Gerry" Stapleton.

Ed..... slight correction to Photo 4, "543" is Ford's factory batch number not Construction Number; C/N 543 was B-24D 41-23748 built by Consolidated (to 93BG). All 3 relevant numbers applied at factory---not always marked in full---are on this new P-38J 42-104246; 765 is the production batch number and the last 3 numbers of serial 246 are over the Lockheed serial 3080 ( I think this system was unique to Lockheed).
