Re: News from Greece

Hello Steve,

Yes, I have them too

FF. Oblt. Karl-Heinz Bock mit BO. Ofw. Herbert Schütz, BF. Uffz. Horst Brückner, BM. Fw. Hans Katen, BS. Gfr. Willi Wittig, alle (+) 26.01.42 Iraklion

FF. Ltn. Horst Simon (+) mit BO. Ogfr. Jahann Krause (vw.), BF. Ogfr. Walter Hermann (+),BM. Ogfr. Willi Bormann, 26.01.42 Iraklion

Obviously there is something wrong with the date in the war diary, it must be the 26th.
At least we have now the codes

Re: News from Greece

Thanks for your reply Byron, is it possible to distinguish which code is relevant to each incident?
Does anybody have any other information that may identify these two a/c to the codes provided by Byron?

Best regs,
Steve.

Re: News from Greece

I found in NET the followig beautiful pic of an Ar 196, from

2./ Aufklärungsgruppe 125 (See)

This unit was06.01.42-07.42 in Skaramanga, then 07.42-07.43 in Suda, later became 4./126

Question:

Is that pic from Skaramanga? I dont think that Suda used cranes like them.
What du you think?

Hello Byron,

I found the same foto in the net some time ago and there was a comment that it was shot in Norway.
By the way,i am researching in the field of greek aviation history.Do you have any info about mycenae airfield near Argos?(Not Argos airfield)
Thank you

regards.

Re: News from Greece

Hello Aviator,

That Arado 196 with the Code 7R+BK belonged obviously to 2./125. This unit, as far as I know, has never been in Norway
http://www.ww2.dk/air/recon/aufkl125.html

I think , I`ll know tomorrow if that place is Skaramanga (as I believe) or somewhere else.

About your second question, as far as I can tell, there was no airfield in Mycenae. Mycenae is some 10 Km. outside of Argos, the same distance its airfield as well.
I have a list with all the existing airfields (Fliegerhorst Kommandanturen) in Greece used by the Germans, my sources are the war diaries; not one is mentioning an airfield in Mycenae.
Do you have any document that can verify the existence of this Fl.H.Kdtr ?
It would interest me

best regards

Byron
