Apparently Dieter Meister was shot down by 1/Lt John Tillett of 12nd recon squadron (10th PRG) who claimed a Fw.190 destroyed at 14.15, 10 miles NW of Frankfurt. The victory was later downgraded to a probable.
Another Fw.190 was claimed damaged (unconfirmed) by 2/Lt William H Enneis of the same squadron in the same hour and place.

Many thanks for posting this very nice information! I always was a bit suspicious that he had been brought down by P-38 twin-engined fighters so this is very nice to have the puzzle rather sorted out now.

addendum....According to "Patton's Eyes in the Sky" " Tillett and his wingman, Lieutnant Bill Enneis, were on a weather reconnaissance mission north-west of Frankfurt when a flight of six Fw 190s tried to bounce them. Seeing the incoming bandits, Lieutnant Tillett pulled his Mustang into a steep climb to 14.000 ft and then dived to the attack. He chose his target and opened fire at 450 yds, closing to 75 yds. As he broke off his attack Tillett saw several big pieces fall away from the enemy aircraft before it burst into flames. It then rolled over his back, and plummeted to earth in an uncontrolled dive ".
