Re: I./KG27 & Stalingrad Air Supply

Rudiger, thanks for putting these on a big help with my list, giving details that are hard to read on GQM.
As regards books on Stalingrad has anybody read 'Fighters over Stalingrad vol.1' and does it contain loss lists ? I believe Vol.2 will cover the Airlift is there a date of when it will be published,

Rudiger

Thank you very much indeed for the additional information concerning these losses, the detail is much appreciated.

Brian

With regards to 'Fighters Over Stalingrad' Vol 1, without any reviews posted on Amazon (or indeed anywhere else that I can find) is the book worth having from both the Russian and German perspective? or is it mainly from the Russian viewpoint?

Regards Richard.

Re: I./KG27 & Stalingrad Air Supply

It is difficult to find the review of the book that has not been released yet.
The book will stick more to the perspective of fighters activities, both Soviet and German, as it is announced in the title. It will contain complete (I hope)loss list for Germans, with some corrections from Soviet side documents and loss list of Soviet fighters, more than 1200 entries.

Nikita, I will certainly be purchasing a copy of the book upon release, thank you for the information.

In my haste I had the impression it had be released already!

Re: I./KG27 & Stalingrad Air Supply

Richard and Brian,

I hope to hand over the manuscript by the end of the year. This is all I can advise by now.

As regards to one of the He-111 in question, namely w.n. 4883. Its pilot Uffz. Kahler got captured. He told that the mission was to supply surrounded troops in Sidorovskiy area. That means he flew not to Stalingrad cauldron. Plane was shot down by AA fire in Kantemirovka area. Kahler bailed out, others perished.

Cheers

In dotting the 'I's etc on this research piece.

Does anyone know who held the position of Staka 3./Kampfgeschwader 27 "Boelcke" during the Stalingrad air-lift period of operations?

As always, the information will be gratefully received.

Regards Richard.

Re: I./KG27 & Stalingrad Air Supply

This is out of commanders compilation from about a decade ago, so it is a bit questionable:
Stakas of 3./KG 27:
Hptm. Joachim Petzold (DKG) (21.05.42 - 22.11.42).
Hptm. Fritz Zollweg (22.11.42 - 31.07.43).

While books about the Stalingrad airlift have be few, but about to be released are:

To Save An Army: The Stalingrad Airlift Hardcover – November 8, 2022 by Robert Forsyth

and
Hitlers Air Bridges: the Luftwaffe's Supply Operations of the Second World War by Degtev Dmitry and Zubov Dmitry.
https://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/h...526789938.html

both in English!!

And mainly about personnel, has many many details of various air supply ops:

Möbius Ingo; Jürgen Huss Stille Adler - Die Ritterkreuzträger der Transportflieger 1940 - 1945 (Chemnitz:Westermann Druck Zwickau, 2019). ISBN: 978-3-9821020-0-9.

Much new material to chew on.
