Re: Lw-losses without enemy actions!

Hi, Jens.

The division between H and F was made due to the purpose of the flight. Thus, a transfer flight from one forward airfield to another would still be a H, a familiarization flight the same. But if the flight was supposed to have a purpose in order to have some kind of enemy interaction (a reco flight would of course also fit this description), this would be F.

Look at some Flugbücher and you will be able to see how these were recorded by the individual pilots (a lot of variation though).

Regards,
Andreas

Re: Lw-losses without enemy actions!

Sorry if I am a bit confused by some of this basically I thought the Feindflug/Heimat referred to the reason for a flight with Feindflug meaning an operational flight while Heimat referred to a domestic flight, all as the post by Andreas. For example an aircraft from an operational unit returnig to Germany on a transfer flight that was then shot down by Allied fighters would be shown as 'H' but lost due to enemy action.
Jens when you say SG-101 is this a refernce to Ju 88's of KG 101 (KSG 101) who did sustain some losses flying against England in 1944 ?
Regards to all
Brian

Andreas, that definition of 'E' has been my experience as well. Have seen it used for Erg.KG. sorties as well as for units such as EKdo. 25. I had guessed that it was for 'Einsatz' but had never seen any formal definition.

'H' is for non-combat flights, even in combat zones, for such things as orientation flights, test flights, transfer/courier flights and others along those lines.

About F and H

So what happened if an flight between to bases at the front was interrupted by enemy? F or H? A flight between Gatow and Jüterborg interrupted by Mustangs? F or H?

In general: Could it be said that H was similar to second line? and F to First line?

About SG 101

I know a pilot (still alive) flew with 190F combat sorties against russians. Three times he was shot down by russian AAA, one time should be 100% loss since he get in soviet captivity after his belly landing.(1945) Is it possible to find his loss?
Before of that happenings he flew against western allies, he flew Fw-190F against the B-17 to get combat experience before he was transferred at eastern front, he told. But i am not sure about the unit at this time (SKG 10?). Indeed he gets shot down by a P-38 and bailed, aircraft crashed. I can't catch him to often since he is very old.

Unfortunately it seems that the Sonntige loss data ends or is missing from about mid-late Sept. 1944. For the guy you know who went missing there should be a casualty report.

The latest SG 101 loss I have is:

Fw190F-8, 2196, Schmidt, Ogefr. Lothar, , , SG 101, , , , , 06-Sep-44, Killed in crash., , Lfl. 10, BA-MA Signatur RL 2 III/780, p.158, , near Znaim, 100%, H

Re: Lw-losses without enemy actions!

"E" quite looks like einsatz, but sometimes it's hard to find which type of einsatz..SG101 at diedenhofen/France/ against bomber 080244 ,,,?? plausible, but a Ju87d-1, at Metz-frescati in april 1944 RSCH as "E", did they combat Maquis ?? maybe a mistake..
