Hello,

Currently on ebay is a photo of a Nieuport 17 belonging to Charles Nungesser, Nieuport 17 N1895, perhaps? at:

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hi Clint. I think more likely to be Nie.17 N1571 ( N65) 1916; it had a large spinner and fitting for Lewis gun and tri-colour bands on top wings.
His Nie.17 N1895 ( and re-serialled 24bis) didn't have a spinner.

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello,

On 13.04.20 there are two photos of captured Nieuport scouts one definitely Russian, the other Italian? at:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/M71-Beuteflu...0AAOSw59pelJAK

https://www.ebay.de/itm/M74-Isonzofr...kAAOSwl05elJM2

Any further information welcomed. Is the machine with the Horseshoe Nieuport 17 3625 of 81 Squadriglia reported captured intact?

Also I've identified the Russian machine a Nieuport 17 of 19 KAO. See http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Research/N...eet1/index.php Although the serial number given is a little unusual. Anything more on that?

Regards,

Clint

Clint

If you look again at the captured Italian Nieuport you will see it is a Type 27.
In fact it is a French built aircraft sold (given?) to the Italians, N 5836.
It was given the Austrian ID 00.71 but I doubt it ever carried that serial number.

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello Stig,

Thanks. Well I'm improving at least I thought that it was a 27 when I first saw the photo before putting down the wrong information. I was too easily mislead by the 81 on the fuselage and then went straight to Gentilli and Varriale I Reparti which of course has the info on 3625.. I take it that N 5836 was a 81 Sqa machine though?

Clint

Must have been Clint

Can't see any other reason for that prominent 81 on the fuselage.
