I would say, yes it is a Vosin XBn2 since its serial seems tobe V.26(82) or something!

The two first digits must be 26 while the other two are really too fuzzy.
What makes you say Esc V16?

The G.III is even worse, very worn first digit. I would rather have it as a 2 or 3 but that does
not fit the known serial ranges.

It seems we agree on the G.III E2.That said what I could see of the blurred numeral looked very like the 2 that can be seen. But as you're aware 2298 falls in the middle of a series of G.IV.


Apologies for the V16 error. 'Unsticky' fingers on my part. I meant of course V116. Baed on David Méchin's artwork on Albin Denis at http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escad...adrille116.htm which is not to say that you're incorrect when seeing the first two digits as 26. Could be.

I do hope the Caudrons are not a repetition of the Nieuport, but at face value, yes the G.IV
do create a problem here.

Regarding the Voisin I am pretty certain we have a V.2600 + serial.

I think it is a Packard-Le Pére LUSAC 11.
The US AEF requested two to be sent to Europe in Sep 1918 (No 42130-131).
Later one more was sold to France (No 42133)

No idea which one this is.

Hi Stig. I think this is the Test Centre at Orly in Nov.-Dec. 1918 ( "Acceptance Park No. 1"). Most likely 42133 (they still used "SC" for Signal Corps), tail marking is......

.....this is the ex-French one now in the US National Museum with re-painted camouflage and designator. Some went to McCook Field with "P" tail numbers.

I can't be positive but as I remember the French example had US cocardes removed (none in this picture); these designators were also on USAS LUSAC.11s (mostly this style) but with some variations.........

Both had US rudder stripes and both S.C. and A.S. prefixes were used though "Air Service" had been authorised on 24 May 1918. A LUSAC at the Packard car plant in Detroit with a mock-up of a Bugatti engine had similar tail markings to Clint's original photo.
These are the 3 fields at the Orly base; I may be mistaken about the location but there are photos showing a similar line of trees though they would no doubt be very common.
