Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks, Snauzer. I would normally have included it with my weekly ebay list, but I'm thinking of abandoning that due to technical difficulties between my PC and this website.
Meanwhile, here's one especially for Marc-Andre (if it works); http://www.ebay.com/itm/Org-Photo-Ab...-/302232740519 |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Yup, it works, sir bob and thanks !
One of the best shots of late production Mtt made Bf 109 K-4. The W.Nr. can be possibly 334 148 or 335 148. This machine features the typical Flossenbürg camouflage pattern with the "Bodenwöhr" final assembly touch: a snake like streak of RLM 76 on the lower fuselage which by that time was left unpainted. Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The P.1101. What a find. In my early years of posting, I had come across only one other photo: A P.1101 in a building of some kind and in an undamaged condition. Daylight through a window illuminated the aircraft.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
ETIS=European Theatre Intelligence School?
On the back of the photo of the 262 parked next to the P1101, does it say 20th Feb -46? It is a bit unclear? |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Photographed at Messerschmitt "Oberbayerische Forschungsanstalt" clandestine development department at Oberammergau. Taken in April 1945 when late snowfalls occurred. Just watch the Bad Wörishofen photographs.
Very interesting photograph - prototype seems to be undamaged and only shoved outside the hangar to crete space for whatsoever. Website about Messerschmitt production site and research facility http://www.herbert-thiess.de/Laber/Index.html Now occupied by https://www.natoschool.nato.int/ Regards RolandF |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thank you Snautzer and RolandF. I do not see ETIS under the military abbreviations I know. The photo mentions a theatre. In some cases, intelligence documents would capitalize all the letters for a town or other key location.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Ed,
http://www.natoschool.nato.int/Organ...tory/1933-1953 The above source states "... the prototype P.1101 and a Me-109 [sic] were found in Building 615 now housing the Manfred Woerner Lecture Hall...". I think what the GI meant by "theater" was a lecture hall. best regards, Jim Geens |

indeed ETIS = European Theatre Intelligence School. ETIS was inaugurated January 1946 in Oberammergau, providing schooling and training for CIC (Counter-Intelligence Corps {"Spionageabwehr" in German} [of the US military]) agents. Also, yes, the date (particularly the year!) is not clearly readable. But "46" seems to be correct. Another earlier?/ later? condition photo of the same scene is this: Source: http://www.luft46.com/mess/mep1101.html#photo%20op |

Hi Jim, Thank you very much. I have long been interested in this subject, and the immediate post-War period. A complete history of the CIC has yet to be written, as well as what the French and British did with captured material. I do have a rough idea of what was captured but there appears to have been a rivalry between the Allies going on in the various occupation zones. Regards, Ed West |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Interesting camouflage on this Ju 88 (??+KH)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/272577647792...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Does anyone have an idea what unit it belonged to? Regards, Rudi. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
It's a Ju 188A-2 U5+KH from 1./KG 2, left behind damaged at Couvron.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
On eBay USA an album with photos of 2 Heinkel He 162: 3 photos of white 4 & one of what looks like white 8.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
On this album we could see a lot of planes , P 47 , with "tail off", as there were damaged to avoid capture;;;by the germans...???

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I assume that was done by the Americans themselves. After the war, many planes were scrapped since there was no need for such a large number of them anymore.

There are no records of a He162, "8" in Kassel. There was however a "white 3, WNr.120028" and a "yellow 6, WNr.310017". Maybe it is one of the two. See http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...t=16871&page=3 The "4" is a different story: "White 4, WNr.120067", originaly captured by the british in Leck, this plane was shipped to Kassel for planned for shipping and evaluation to and in the US. Howerver, only the wings made it to the US and were mounted on "white 7, WNr.120022" that later became FE-493. The fuselage of "white 4" seems to have been scrapped in Kassel. "White 7, WNr.120022" (FE-493) and "Yellow 6, WNr.310017" (FE-?) were brought to the US. |

British capture, AX-772 of RAE
|
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I think it's more likely the location is Ibsley rather than Issley. Ibsley is a long disused aerodrome on the south coast of England.

Hi,
I wonder if it wasn't one among the many JG53 machines received by JG300 ... Cheers, Franck. |
