This photo above (part of a series) was made by Soviet war photographer, Yevgheniy Khaldey. It's available on the net, in several places.

Further to this photo, we see, among others, MWG built Bf 109 Ga-6 W.Nr. 760 070. All those planes were found at Johannistal/Adlerhof in late April 1945.

This is one of those photos which was printed multiple times and distributed amongst those serving in the Western Desert.

What am I looking at here, wing cannon, square engine intake, an E model that made it to the end of the war?

Impossible to be sure but it looks to me more like the barrel has a perforated sleeve for air-cooling, so maybe an MG rather than a cannon?

Also, the transplanted panel from another machine makes an interesting "new" Balkenkreuz.
