Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Don't have too much on Ju 88 G-6 W.Nr. 620506 except it was reportedly at Alhorn 12/45 and at Lubeck-Blankensee 1/45. No unit or other info.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The white band around the wing near the end, bit not a white tip. Interesting. Is that BF 109 wing?
Explanations about the band? |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
My eyes were caught by the same detail. By casually looking at it, it's an Fw 190 wing to me, but I might be wrong.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The Ar 196A-5 (Wrk Nu 623183) was most likely photographed a Willow Grove NAS in Pennsylvania. It was from the Prince Eugen, test flown and left at the base in 1949.
It was subsequently sent to NAS Pensacola, but severely damaged. Not sure of current status. The other Ar 196A-5 from the Prince Eugen is at the NASM. |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I believe the W.Nr. for this aircraft was 300230, written off by the LW on 20.9.43. About a year ago there were several poor quality small images of this a/c on this thread.

I wonder if the first picture is of one of the "blue" Ju 88s at Foggia, similar to the one that landed in Switzerland. Much debate about the color, Michael Ullmann has come up with documentation about the use of Farbton 83 and it being a dark blue. The aircraft at Foggia, and their odd scheme, is also discussed by Merrick in column 2 of page 326 in Vol. 2 of Luftwaffe Camouflage and Markings 1933-1945, Classic Publications, 2005.
This is the aircraft that landed in Switzerland, with note from a source I do not recall. WNr.550396 Ju88A-4 (ATG Leipzig) TK+SF / B3+MH. this Ju88A-4 that flew with 1./KG54? and landed in Dübendorf Switzerland on 21 Oct, 1943 after the crew had lost their bearings. The aircraft was painted water-blue (unknown hue) on its upper surfaces throughout, upon which a wave-type pattern (sand yellow Nr.79) had been sprayed. The lower surfaces bore black night camouflage. The standard-size original Balkenkreutze were painted over probably with the same special type of camouflage and replaced by small crosses on fuselage and wings, outlined in white. The small Geschwader code “B3” was ahead of the Balkenkreutz and call and squadron letter were in standard size, being repeated on the flame suppressor tubes over the exhausts on both engines. The original black swastika with the black border was kept on the rudder but integrated into the wave pattern. The Geschwader emblem (a small coat of arms) appeared on both sides of the note.” |
