Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Ok - I do not recommend so drastic action - But then you need also go back and use Junkers old original designation EF 59 (when Junkers was still private company and Hugo was defenetely NOT in the A-H. National-Socialist-Party.) because 88 was also an RLM allocation. Saying Nazi this and that is of course very naive, like sayin you won and therefore you can do whatever you like. Universally historians use Ju 88 and have no problem with the spelling. Nothing personal.

The shots of VH509 is most likely after receipt in Canada
Aircraft is known to have been at Downsview in 1952 Cheers Stig |

I would like to know why it went to Canada.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Large numbers of so called War Prizes were distributed to all corners of the "Empire". Reason was probably to show many of them to the public while the more exotic types were used for testing etc.
Why Canada received at least two Me 262 was probably only for a show off. None was made airworthy and tested as far as I know. Cheers Stig |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Re # 1694-Another image of this a/c in War Prizes, pg 103, before RAF markings. Reported as W.Nr. 190327, 1H+GT, Ju 188 A-2, although it appears most, if not all, Ju 188s in this sequence were A-3s. This would make sense, as it ended up at Gosport supposedly for torpedo dropping trials.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello,
It's seems we can see a yellow band around the engine cover. This yellow band was painted on the planes of Luftflotte 4 ( Lfl.Kdo.4 ) on the nose and on the tail. Only II/JG 52 had these yellow band. Not I and III/JG 52. Erich Hartmann was the GruppenKommandeur of I/JG 52 But if this plane was from II/JG 52, maybe it was the plane of Wilhelm Batz. But an other plane with the same Gruppen marking of II/JG 52 existed at Neubiberg at May 1945. It was a Bf 109 K-4. Best regards, Lumabe |

The Ar 196 A-5 (Wrk Nu 623183) was most likely photographed a Willow Grove NAS in Pennsylvania. It was from the Prince Eugen, test flown and left at the base in 1949. It was subsequently sent to NAS Pensacola, but severely damaged. Not sure of current status. The other Ar 196 A-5 from the Prince Eugen is at the NASM. |

The first photo shows Fw 190 A-6 W.Nr. 530 937 "TH+RU". i wonder which Munich airfield this is. 2nd and 4th photos do show possibly a WNF built refurbished Bf 109 G-14 which W.Nr. 510 014 might be stencilled just under the windscreen , the three last digits "014" repeated with bigger numerals below. A brilliant find, the more so because - to my knowledge - nothing is known about an Reparaturwerft in Linz so far. Cheers Marc |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Please note TH+RU had the smal "th" letter like this "th+RU". Witch unit used this code ? I saw an other plane, a Fw 190 S-5 or S-8 at Bad Aibling with the code: BW+WC wrote like this : " BW+wc ' and yellow "27". Also a Ff 190 with small "vs+??".
Any idea about this unit ? Maybe a training unit ? Best regards, Lumabe. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello Everyone,
Lumabe is correct. Regarding photo #1712, Fw 190 A-6 TH+RU, although not visible in this photo, it also features a yellow number 15 aft of its codes. It is another in a series of at least ten Fw 190A-4, A-5, A-6, A-8 and S-8 versions that feature similar forms of markings: a St.Kz. where the first two letters are approximately 1/3 size, followed by a large yellow numeral behind. Its right-wingtip-mounted-pitot tube, lack of lower wing coloring also suggests that it is a rebuilt airframe. I currently have no idea of a unit for these aircraft. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Given the location of all these Fw 190s (airfields in and around Munich) and the large number of rather odd variants my best guess would be IV./EJG 1.
