All I can locate is that "remains" were recovered in 1986.... Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Stig,
No doubt it will have been those remains which were "restored". Andy |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
And thank you Andy for that quick identification.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
2 could be either "QT" - "I" , "J" or "L".
May I suggest ""L". See this link - https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Fairey-B...0-ebay-04.html |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Alex,
I don't think that is the same aircraft. Look at the thickness of the white vertical band on the tail. I do accept that it could have been different on each side, but... I'm also intrigued to know how the photo you quoted has been identified as QT-L. I think it could also be QT-I or QT-J, as you suggested for the other photo. Andy |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Ed,
An amazing haul of Fairey Battle and Bristol Blenheim photos. I think some new wrecks to me and lots of equally valuable new angles on others. Many thanks yet again. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Martin,
You're most welcome. I can't post them if they are not there. I was just as amazed at this haul of photos. It's usually minnows but this was an unexpected catch. Regards, Ed West |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
I can only echo, great find.
#1 looks like UX-N, with the serial appearing to end in 2. Ideas anyone? #7 QT-H of 142 Sqn also has me stumped. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Paul,
Re. #1709. I'm out of my depth here dealing with French aircraft but that second wreck is also a MS.406. Right now I am looking at a copy of the AVIONS Hors-Serie No. 24 'La Debacle de mai-juin 1940' by Denes Bernad, Christophe Cony and Michel Ledet. It is a softback publication with captions in French and English devoted to photographs of wrecked or abandoned French aircraft, all taken by German soldiers during and after the campaign. I think there are two photos of the near Morane on page 21. The location is Cambrai airfield after it was abandoned on 17 May 1940. The aircraft is identified as No. 918 '2' of GC III/2 and the pilot was a Lt. Lechat. Regards, Martin. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Martin thanks for looking into this and so not a Hurricane ! Thanks

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Ed,
for your post #1706. 1/ Blenheim R3618 UX-N, 82 Sqn., lost 8-6-1940. 3/ Battle K9273 HA-R, 218 Sqn., abandoned Auberieve-sur-Suippes airfield 15-5-1940. 7/ Battle QT-H, 142 Sqn. Probably L5440 though not certain. Probably one of the few 142 Sqn. aircraft with the serials overpainted. Abandoned at Berry-au-Bac airfield 16-5-1940. 9/ Blenheim UX-Z, 82 Sqn. Probably P6925, lost 13-6-1940 (belly-landed). The only other 'UX-Z' Blenheims around this period that I can find are; R3800, lost 13-8-1940 (offshore) and T2163, lost 11-1-1941 (probably lost at sea). 10/ Blenheim UX- of 82 Squadron. ID unknown. 11/ Blenheim YH-A R2780, 11 Sqn., abandoned Larissa in Greece April 1941 13 & 14/ Battle L5231 QT-G, 142 Sqn., lost 10-5-1940. 17/ Battle PH-P L5190. 12 Sqn., lost 10-5-1940. 22/ Battle P2203 HA- . 218 Sqn., lost 11-5-1940. Regards, Martin. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Martin,
Thanks for the extra information. Regarding #9, Blenheim P4843 (lost 7 July 1940, crashed in Germany) was also UX-Z I believe, althought it is unlikely to be a candidate for this photo. Andy |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Andy,
I have P4843 as UX-J, based on multiple entries in the Watton ORB (AIR 28/902). Martin. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Thank you for the additional information. Best, Ed |
