Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Is this a Fw 190 F WNr 428372?
Anyone who knows where? Cheers Stig |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Nice!!!
Thank you Rudi. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Kecay's "Captured Butcherbirds" has another photo (most likely) of this Fw 190 on page 100, while it was still rather intact. There are some small differences, hence the 'most likely', but Kecay indicate as W.Nr. 586372 (not readable in the photo they show), which is close enough to think it could be one and the same aircraft. Tactical code was Black 8. Location indicated by Kecay is Mannheim-Sandhofen.

https://7exy4q.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Roger, it doesn't really look like it's 586372. Looks more like 426372 or 428372. I have asked the seller. Wait and see. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I agree, I think the Kecay book got it wrong from their photo that was not fully in focus, but I believe they are the same aircraft.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Arado-built Fw 190 F-9 (WNr. 428372), marked 8+ - black from an unknown II./SG unit, and found abandoned at Fl.Horst Mannheim-Sandhofen (coordinates 49.561111 8.463889).
Interestingly, when first captured is sported a natural metal cowling. Apparently, it has received a darkly-painted replacement. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello,
to #1741: according to the KG 26 chronicle "Achtung – Torpedos los" and "A History of the Mediterranean Air War 1940-1945" Vol. 4 the Ju 88 A-4 144662 1H+CS of 9./KG 26 was lost in combat over Nettuno on 26 Jan 1944. The crew Oblt Werner Konrad, Ofw Helmut Fischer, Ogefr Wolfgang Hamacher and Obgefr Walter Fritzel was taken prisoner. Regards Leo |

This was Ju 88 A-14 Torp W.Nr. 0144662 but code appears be 1H+OF on that photo. But code does not make sense for that period, Jan 44. Except some dude did show up with fresh black paint and change it, if not, then I say RAF intel - A.I.1(g) Report (dated 10.07.44) where code comes from - be fauty. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Reference to post 1741. The fuselage code appears to me to be 1F+CE.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Both Eds give valid points regarding the code seen on this aircraft.
However, if we take into account a certain wrinkling and cracking during the crash landing the last two letters could actually be CS if we also consider that somewhat angular templets could have been used. Reading codes (serial numbers) on crashed aircraft are notoriously difficult. Cheers Stig |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks Rudi.
A brand new photo - at least for me - the second one - of that E-7/Trop of Jabogruppe Afrika. Eventually I./Sch.G 2 Here we can see its complete former unit marking: S9+CC of 8./ZG1. Correction S9+CS. Other photo in Prien's JFV Teil8.I page 361. "Schwarze 15" a G-4/Trop of 5./JG53, Comiso, July 1943. |

My pleasure Rudi.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Re#1741: I agree with Stig that the most likely code was 1H+CS, as there are documented occasions where Staffels used an aircraft with another Staffel's code and I feel the "Achtung-Torpedo Los" to be a well researched book. I believe
that Ed North is correct on the sub-type, A-14, as it appears a Kutonase was installed. The listing of A-14s as A-4s seems to be a common mistake in some Luftwaffe documents, so even primary documents can be wrong on this minor point. ArtieBob |

Completely Col You are totally right and obviously it's a bad reading. When taking a deep breath I can read C9+CS on this new picture, too, not S9+CC. And since the last code letters were R, S & T for 7, 8 & 9 Staffel respectively ... My mistake. I'll try to not repeat it :) Thanks again. Regards, Franck. |
